The junior list just com pleted a cozy

put up cottages in all parte of the town.
The way to build a town is to erect hous
es and offer inducements to persons to
settle in the town.
Miss Mary Kirby has been employed by
Prof Eaily as assistant at the Seminary
school. This Institution now has as fine
attendance as it lias recorded in years and
the increasing demands of its swelling
numbers, necessitated the services of an
other teacher. Miss Kirby’s tact as au
instructress and accomplishments as a lady
will greatly add to the facilities offered by
this place of learning.
One of the growing wauts of our town
school is a music t eacher. This advanced
day of accompi islimeats is incomplete
witiiout this necessary adjunct to female
acquirements. Every young lady in the
Seminary should be taking music lessons
in common with her clastic course. Why
can’t the services of some good teacher
tie secured and this important branch of
college instruction be kept space with
other studies ? What it learning bow to
•“cipher” worth to a young lady if her
hook education is not supplemented by
this modern accomplishment! We hops
the merry ring of the piano will be # heard
in every parlor in town and every young
lady competent to eutertain her guests
with soul-stirring strains of music.
The deputy marslmls at this place
sallied forth into the unsequestered haun s
ct the hoys wlio dabble with tlie moon
shine in this county last Monday moruing,
and suddenly introduced themselves to
three men on Bu:ktown named Cocbrau
and McClures who whre brewing the wily
tanglefoot. A still, soma meal, tubs, a
few gallons of whisky, m yoke of oxen
and wagon, were captured. They were
bound over under bond, and failing to
make it, were carried to Atlanta jail. On
Monday night a still which was deposited
in the Commissioner’s office was stolen by
gome parties who chose te keep their
identity best known to themselves. They
slipped out the window sash of the front
side of the office and (kipped with their
coveted prize to parts unknown. This
stealthy proceedure that jumped by the
officials while asleep is a signal that more
work awajts the nocturnal ramblers of
Uncle Bam.
We have wom out our fingers and
shattered pencils in an effort to induce
the town council, or the citizens to plant
shads trees on our streets It goes now
without question that a town without
wv .i, beauty and comfort is no town hardly.
We iwpeat what we have said before, but
you be certain not to heed it as you have
done heretofore, that nothing nothing
adds a greater chafm or more grace to
auy town than nice shade trees Every
principal street in town should have its
side wslks lined with shade tress ; and if
the town council fails to do this, the
property holders should have town pride
enough to plant them out themselVea.
They would enhance the value ot the
property more than double the coat of
planting. We do hope the property
holders will look to their own interest ia
thia matter, if the couucil does fail to
take action. The cost of transplanting
nice maple trees would 1* trivial and in
significant, while ihe town would lie
beautified, and visitors would admin: a
place that exhibited such public spirit aud
taste.
