There are several applicants for the position. Among them is, Col. E. W. Coleman, of Ellijay, who we would be glad to see appointed. Colonel Coleman requests us to thank the good editor of the Advance for the above complimentary notice, but begs leave to state that be has not, nor will not, apply for the position. It is a cold day in the year when no sensation can be scared up in JCllijay. On last Monday a fine horse of Hipp & Dooly made a dash from the depot scums some croestiea. A ner buggy and cross ties not being very cotgtnial when hurri edly run together, it was natural that tin ' crcssties got the better of the bargain, j The horse turned over the buggy and broke loose. On yesterday morning Deputy Marshal Jim Findley was approaching the depot from Duckett’s mill, thinking pos aibly be was creeping up on some moon shine sanctum and forfeiting that we lived in the midst of an age of raiimsda, when suddenly his firy ar.d untsmtd steed whirled shout in the read gently spilling the deputy mirths! on hit handsome fare and made it lively for the vehicle in the two or three hundred yaid* it danced u tbs horses heels. Pursuant to a call of citizens and pub lished in the Courier, a number of lead dug prohibitionists met in the-court house on last Saturday to elect delegates to the State leinperance Convention which meets in Atlanta May Bth. Colonel R. T. Pickens was called to the chair, and W. 8. Coleman requested to act as secretary. W. S. Coleman explained the object of meeting as above stated, aud the house began to discuss the situation in. Georgia. Some thought the state would overwhelm ingly adopt a constitutional amendment, while others professed skeptical beliefs concerning the adoption of a prohibitory clause in our consttution by the state at large. Rev. W. D. Allen offered the fol lowing resolutions which were adopted: “Resslved, That it is the sense of this meeting that the Legislature of Georgia should subnet to the people an amend ment to the. Constitution ot thfeSt te, prohibiting the manufacture and sale of intoxicating liquors.” % Dr G. F. Smith of Cartecay and Rev. W. D. Allen of Eilijuy were chosen dele gates to the States (.’on vention from this county. Considerable interest is being manifes ted all over Georgia about the coming convention and its probable course. Counties from every port of the state are electing delegates to this convention which will lie the largest Aent|>erance ever held in Georgia. An .interesting programme is expected, and the distin guished gentleman present will make it a most important convention. Hotice, °chool Teachers. The timid maiden also deigns to brave the snaky jungles of creek banks to gill* the finny trout. It is a fine mountain sport, and young men, you know nothing of the sweets of life unless you have once oscil lated between the jagging hook and the fair one’s g weet smiles. As couit week approaches the editor begins to think of the unfortunate who are harnessed up by the court and hustled off to the “gang,” and often wonders if an editor was ever treated that way.
