Wellborn have been removed from the cemetery m Columbus to Atlanta. They do not state the cause of the removal, but we suppose it was done by his rel atives. Quarterly Meeting.—The regular quarterly meeting for the Hamilton circuit will be held at the Methodist church at this place next Saturday and Sunday. The citizens of Hamilton are noted for their hospitality and will cheerfully entertain all who will attend. Arrested. —Sheriff Robinson, on j last Wednesday, arrested and jailed two men, A. J. & Clem, charg ed with assault and attempt to mur der a Mr. Wood of this county, some ' time ago. They were arrested upon j a bench warrant issued at the last term of the Superior court. Ou | Thursday, A. J. Clem gave bond of two hundred and fifty dollars, with Capt. W. C. Johnston becoming bondsman, and was released. The other failed to give bond and was re turned to jail. They ray they can prove an alibi. Hines Dozier, Esqr. is retained as counsel by the Messrs Clem. In the place of that, we to day publish an arlicle from Col. 11. 11. Jones, of Macon, which wa think is much better. It will he ftitmd on the fourth page; read it and learn all about the culti vation of rice. Too Far from Home.—We have received one or two communications from “Qld Farmer” on subjects re lating to foreign c untries—the Mississippi levees etc., but as they are too tar :iom home, and not like ly to interest many o* our readers, we must decline them. ‘‘Old Farmer” is a sensible and practical writer, as his articles heretofore v. i;l go to attest, and we shall be glad 10 hear from him on subjects nearer home. Walks Among Our Advertisers SIXTH PAPER. Proceeding in our walk we again went down broad street, and as we passed the Georgia Home building, two negroes standing near tho pave ment, in animated conversation at tracted our attention: “Seed it in do ’Qnircr paper.’’ “Seed what?" “Bout de wot!’ c uniu’ to do end dis berv year, sehon and six,” said lie whom we will call Bob. “Seed do debble,’’ replied Toni; “you can’t read.’’ “Ef I can’t, Marge Jim can, an’ I heerd hint read it jest like preuchin’’—time’s mighty nigh up far yor to hand in ycr checks 'loin.’’ “G’longßob: 1) li t de Bible say nobody don’t know when G.aberl gwino ter toot dat horn?” “Dot’s so, Iml dis heals do Bible all holler; de big men done calkerlated it up an’ sump’in gvviue lor happen. Ire been ’batin ’bout it fur a long time, an’ dis settles it, When dis boy gits to kingdom come, he don’t want to go roun’ playin’ a lone ban’; dnifore, lie’s boun’ ter L'it spliced. So long, Dub; yer’il hear from ’er soon,” and as the pajr, thought fully separated, we moved on, and a few steps brought us to the store of C. A. Redd & Cos., grocers. This is among the very beat firms bf the city, and their suc cess show s that integrity and judic ious advertising will win a host of good customers that otherwise would not help to swell their sales. To our certain knowledge they draw a good trade from Harris county, and we have never y t heard a word of fault found with them, but to the contrary, universal commendation. 1 hey keep a full stock of tiie best groceiies, which they offer on the most reason able terms, and we know them so well that we fee! perfectly safe in saying if you trade w A Redd A; Cos., you will be certain to get vottr money’s worth. Notice their advertisement in the Journal. The high to..id young gentleman, Mr. I’d. M. Hudson o( ll,.iris, is with '.hem, and will be happy to welcome all his friends. Leaving here v.e crossed the street and reached the sio.ie of our friends, IIoLSTItAD it CP., dealers in farming implements and fertilizers. It is astonishing that so many of onr intelligent farmers re fuse to supply their farms with labor saving implements. Some seem to think that because “daddy,’’ who could not help himself, tickled thi ground with a three-inch scooter, they must do so too; and because their respected progenitor balanced a bundle of nails on one side with a stone on the other they must pursue the same plan; but we believe things have changed since that day, atm that the man who expects to maki farming a success, now, must use al, the means of his command to save lab ir ;ml cultivate thoroughly. Go to lh I •dead’s and see his line stock, ami you will be surprised to learn w hat stride have been made in the art of farming within the past few years. Hark to the dinner-bell 1 As this welcome sound from the front o* the Central Hotel reached our ears we were reminded that .Mrs. Wooldridge who keeps one of the best tables a man can find in Columbus was ready to do the hon ors at dinner in her usual graceful arid agreeable way. This Hotel richly deserves the patronage of the traveling public, for it is neatly kept, well furnished, and under the man agement of a most excellent lady Mr. Harvey, the accommodating eerk understands his business, and makes ids guests comfortable. Suc cess to this house! Gentlemen, give i; a libera! si.are of your patronage. After dinner Spade & Ethridge, warehousemen and conuui-sion mer chant a claimed our attention. These gentlemen have not 'heir superior in business anywhere; they are up ri lit, liberal, energetic, and accom modating; and v.e believe if they keep their names before the public as a reminder tbut they are still in business they will do a large, if not the controlling, storage and comrnis t u>n business in Harris county. They store cotton, and othe.t goods on reasonable Utns, advance libe lb, and give their most particular alter, ion to all merchandise consign I to hern. Farmers, and others who wish to consult their own interests will do well to keep this house in view ns one of tho I rest firms in Co lumbus, and deal wi h them accord ingly. Wo now tun our attention o Pr.A. licit, Binfouu it Cos., dealers in soluble sininonialed super phosphate of lime. These enterpris ing gentlemen are to bo relied upon as being “all right;" they oiler a fertilizer that is greatly needed on much of our worn out lard, and we have no doubt it would often lie to tho interests of tho farmer to u*o more lime and less guano. Dy mix ing tho material offered by ibis house with bottte composted manure-heaps we ctiu secure the best fertilizer ever used in our country. Try it. L. (Continued next week.) “Leaf by Leaf tho Roses Fall.” Joyce and his whiskey-ring crowd hnvc been nipped by tho cold frost of adversity, and Babcock, Grant’s private aeewtnry, lias been blown into the ditch ; IJelknup, Secretary of War, and general bribery agent, has been swept away from tho parent stem; Pmehbaok has rolled himself up and succumbed to tho winter that is freezing *up the stream of radical ■ utrages ; Shenck has yielded to a breeze from Great Britain; and Pierreponl, Jeweil, nnd Robeson ar rapidly withering, and will soon be drifted into obscurity where they will take their chances with the other effete “rose-leaves.” Who next? Well, if it wag not impolitic on the part of the Demo cratic party to push the matter to an mpeachment of the President, Grant would bo tbc next to fall into the dust; but here tho Democrats -must he cautious, for just ns sure ns Grant is impeached, the Republicans will cry out “persecution,” and every man, negro, and dog of the party will rally around Grant and elect him for a third term; then if l.e does not keep it as long ns lie lives, and when he dies will the little affair to Freddy, or brother Orville lie’s a fool. £ILVE R-I?
