The wo men are not pin at hard service like the men, bui cook for the guard and assist the deiHil of men who are the regular cooks for the convicts. Mr. Admits states that very few of them ever remain long enough to nuko enough money to return homo on, but make their way to the nearest city and are noon caught up and sent back again. Anxious to Kcturu. Frank'Smtih, a negro who worked for Mr. T. 11. Ho is a negro that was acting as agent, and pur suided several of Mr. Kimbrough’s hards to leave him. We have seen the letter written to Mr. K., in which Frank states that, lieiain Boliver coun ty, Miss., nud that he is water bound and that the walor is noariy up to his house. Ho humbly bugs Mr K. to send for him, and promisas to be his slftvajf lie will only do so. Whatley, S. C. flood man, It. C. Kimbrough nnd A. G. Moss were appointed a committee of five to nominate the delegates. They nominated as follows: S. J. Whatley, llinea Dozier, J. T. Blount and J no. T. Williams, which nomination was ratified by the meet ing. The Hamilton Jor krai. was re quested to pubh-.li thu proceedings of the meeting. Cep*. Stanford addressed the meet ing, in a forcible speech, on the polit ical condition of the country. Ha was follow.d by Judge Hudson, whose remarks on the necessity of united effort on the part ot the Democratie party, were well put. Col. Mob ey spoke well on the necessity of re trenchment and reform, nnd of the beauty of sacrificing personal am bitious desires to the public good. On motion of Col. Mdbley, 'be present Sub Executive Committee were declared _t> be continued in office. On motion of Judge Kimbrough, the meeting adjourned. Storey last September, came up next, and the prisoner found not guilty. 'flic Slate versus A. J. Adams, charged will assualt and battery. Verdict of guilty, nmi recommended to the mercy of the court. Fined 1 ‘25 ami cost. Tim Slate versus William Hall, charged with horse stealing, was next called. 'Verdict of not guilty. The Slate versus Dan Ottslcy, John Brooks nnd Wesley Crirn, three negroes, charged with bfirglary in the night tune, were found guilty. Dan and John were sentenced to eight months on the chain gange The counsol asked for mercy on the part of Wesley and lie was sentenced to six months on the (lain jaig. The jail is now clear of prisoners except the last named negroes, who will probably bo sent away very soon. Hill Scats, having nrade some threats that lie would not go to the penitentiary, Judge Crawford had an extra guard placed at the jail oti Wednesday r.iglit, and he was sent to Columbus Thursday morning for satin keeping. Ho has by'this time arrived at the Dade coal mine, where he lias gone to work out his sentence. J. H. Morcflcld. ’Eh. Journal. —Seeing the follow ing notice of a Harris county man, I dip it out, and hope ytiti will insert it in your paper. It is front the Atlan ta Times, and says: The Alabama State flr.itfrtal has the following to say ot orr wormy foreman : “ We arc pleased to learn, as wo do from undoubled source, that Mr. J. 11, Moorofickl, formerly foreman of the Journal, is one of the pioprietors, and foreman of that ex cellent paper, The Atlanta Daily Times. Mr. Moorefidd is one of the most tasty nnd enterprising printers in the South, and the mechanical ex ecution of The Times is a monument of his energy and appreciation. lie is a sale, steady and sure manager in a newspaper office, and we shall be greatly surprised if The Times does not soon distance all the Georgia dailies in enterprise and tact, as well as in work of collecting and dissemi nating the news.
