Asa prelude to (he usual i-'iii'M of pio nics, parlies tint lie bmUing trees and brijflit sun light of Spring itnluco ns to inriulge‘ in, lira young ladies and goiVle.nen uf Hamilton, with some rf tho :Vi • J>- '/oiiiig young Indies ami otic of La Grange’s most fascinating charts, paoKcd their baskcis and shouldered their guns for a march to Palmetto creek, Monday morning. After a walk of an hour, in the gay est of spirits, the destination was reached with sparkling eyes and flushed cheeks, in joyous anticipation of a day’s p'easure. , 'Keating, and se lecting a suitable place to spread the table, the appetites, which had been astonishingly sharpened by the walk, vvdre.soon appeased by a delightful eolla ionin which each was indebted to the other for wbat was considered the choicest bits, for all shared equal ly in providing it. After “a target shooting by the joung men, the target being a pickle jar thrown into the air, during which performance Mrs. J.T. \Viiliams sent In a jar of tho coolest, trediest, and nicest milk iirmginablr, for which the party tender their thanks, the compa tiy divided into couplets and quartette intent upon enjoying themselves to,.the utmost of their ability. Four of the party climbed the fence and went bird hunting—one young lady and gentleman having laid a wager that they could kill more birds is a given length of time than the other couple —and lift the others to fish or talk love as they might selce*. TANARUS! e hunters rambled through briars, climbed fences, shooting birds and gathering flowers for two hours, when they re turned to the place of rendervons, to call and fire signals in vain, for none of their companions were to be seen. The wood- and creek were searched for some time, and at last the crown of a hat was espied peering up from un der the bank, and an inspection proved •hat another hat was in close proxim ity, each shading a pair of unusually bright eyes. A young lady and gen tleman had established themselves upon a ledge of-rand belosv a steep bank, and had become so intent up on—fishing we ’presumed, that they could tell ns nothing of the other parties, “but supposed they wore fish ing farther down.” After-a fruitless search the trio miubi their wny back to town, H'laro they arrived before sunset, tired, sun burnt, and happy in the consciousness of haviifg captured three fish— measuring, in all, five inches—and killed ten birds which might possibly weigh two ounces, and to find that the others, by another route, had placet ded them but a lew minutes. It was one of the most pleasant days with the Hamiltonians that they have spent in sometime, and pleasant memories connec'ed with the Pa'— 010*10 excursion will still linger a 'ouftd us. Almost a Catastrophe. —As Messrs. James Griffin and Felix Jen kins were rising along together in a sulky last Monday, by some accident, the}' allowed one of the wheels to run into a rut in the road, w hen Mr. Grif fin lost his balance and fell out ; the ground caught him, however, and lie received no injury, The horse they wore driving became frightened and dashed forward for a short distance un il he reached a deep, black mud hole; here lie made a short turn, and threw Mr. Jenkins, head foremost, into tbemud. lie sustained no inju ry, but was considei ably shaken up, and emerged front the black pool a muddier, if not a madder man than when he was thrown into it. We suppose it was not so much the fall that was the cause of the shock as the sudden stop. Thornton cfc Acee have established a large hat store, next door to their clothing honse, and are selling hats wonderfully cheap. In the gennral, the citi zens of this district are composed of shrewd, honest, thriving business men, who are fully alive to the tunes and their interest, and are ready to dispense a liberal hospitality to those who come within the limits. Our farm<*r3 are preparing, as wc'l as the weather and l-he lateness of Ifu season will allow, for planting. Ot course it will be out of the question to give an accurate estimate, as yet, of the relat.ive area of corn and cot ton that will be planted; though, it is the general opinion that the area of corn planted will not exceed that of last season. Stnidl grain has been planted largely, end the prospect i very fluff*-: tig > a,, increased vie and of wheat, and o.gs.
