L. Tito Right Spirit. Our offi. ials, from Governor 'o a justice of tho peaoe, to all appearan ce*, tiller)/ disregard the oppressed condition of our people, and spend the public fund* without any regard to economy and retrenchment, while out taxes—State, county and munici pal—arc kept up to such a per cent as to utterly dishearten if not drive our laboring c'rtssoa fr m beyond mir borders. The thousands squandered annually in each session of the Legis lature is an outrage and should not be tolerated. Think of over tire/ity-oiie thousand dollars being paid to clerks t’o y forty days aervices, mid that too under the recommendation of the Senate and House, and endorsement of the Governor, Think of if, ye poor, oppressed tax payers. Will you pcrpetualo any man in office who will thus squander and recklessly 1 spend your unbalance, by pyying one ; thousand dollars each for a clerk of tlie House and Secretary of the Sen- ate, besides allowing them all the as sistance they desire or ask for, at iqually exhotbitant prio s. Let there he a general and determined demand made by the people f>r a genera! “trimming down’’ of all our salaried officers. Wo are too poor to pay $25 per dav for labor that could be performed for s■'!, and we should have the courage to speak out, against such reckless expenditures and utterly re pudiate every office holder who lias participated in such acts from the Governor down.
