It is mily believed that w ill) ibis year's lentilu] harvest of grain, anew era if progress, prosperity and independ enco a wails the firmer* of our Stale. 841A U, Oil AIN. A disposition to sow more largely iu wheat ami oat- i- generally indi cated hy correspondents, but the season Ims Let'll so dry that hut little has been rowu. Sumo that was sown early died under the combined effects of drouth and a scorching aun. It is not too 1 itc, bowet or, to Heed a full crop in Middle and Lower Georgia. The cotton crop is so far advanced that there will bo nn ad mirable opportunity for seeding small grain nftcr the crop is gathered. The largo oat crop produced this year iu Georg a was the financial sal vation of many farmers wlm had neither money nor credit wiih which Vo produce corn. Farmers are again nrged to seed down a broad area in email grain, and cspechilly in oils. If aown in the fall, either the Wiii- Grnziug or the Rod Hunt I’roof va netios should be sown. None but the Host Proof is ceiuin for a crop if sown in the Spring. In consider ation of the general failure of the turnip crop, more small grain should be ■own for winter and spring pas. torage. For this pm potto rye is ex ee'let.t if sown on rich land. In Middle and Lower Georgia, the small grained, early varieties of wheat l.e sown, and as a general thing, red wlu-ai will be more certain than white iu warm slimnlea. COTTON. Notwithstanding the severe drouth which Ims prevailed a I over the State, except in j; a few counties in tlie Northeast, tiio reason was execp. tionnhly favorable during July and the fi r.'.t half of August, that the cot ton crop exceeds that of last year fifteen and a half uor cent, being ninety this year compared with T:bl Oct. 15th, last year. Ninety-five per cent, of the reporters say that cotton-picking is as well advanced as at this time last year; and a large majority of those report it much more so. Many say that the crop in their sections u ill he nil picked by the first of November. Eighty two per cent, of the correspondent* report the cotton saved in good con dition, With the txocption of a few counties in which there have heeu rain storm*, the season has been very favorable for gathering all matured crops, but very ili-astrous to those crops, such as sugar cane sweet po tatoes, field peas, and turnips, which mature late. Besides the increased yield, the cotton crop of this vear will be marketed in far hotter condi tion than that of fast year, and eon *. quotuly command a more uniform price. •soak asp svnrr. It is suggested that cxj>< riascuts | lie ins'iluled i determine the prueti- ! ca! value of Sacchnrotueter* in iu-ik iug sugar ami s\ rup. It is well know ii that most, if not all, of tin* syrup made on tins farm, though of Tery superior quality w hen new, un dergoes a change during the follow ing spiing and summer, and is liable to fermentation. libeccums thinner, of darke r color, and l. ss sweet.
