At c see by the Colutniiu* Times
thru this weiiilcuinn is a candidate
lor SLerilT of Mnscooeu county.
Ca: t. K. can give a* good a war
■ cord as any man in the country,
having fnithtnlly served through tin
war in the 35th Ga. ftegt., and
always at a pci of duty. Ho is a
fornt-T resident of Hamilton and an
intimate acquaintance leads U to be
lieve that no better man coo'd lie
selected to fill the position than
Cnptnin Kimbrough. The Times
in speaking of him very truthfully
say, : “For this county we need a
fair and impartial Sheriff, one who
is not wedded to lawyers or their
causes, and who will discharge his
duty as an officer without regard to
consequences. We want a fair man,
one not bending his knee to any set
of peonle, hop'ng their support. We
want a man who is the'servant of the
people, an 1 not governed by a few.
Muscogee county wants just such
a man, and in hitn will be found
Jake Kimbrough, who is this day
announced as a candidate. He is
competent, was a good Confederate
soldi, r, and will be able to give the
bond.
We hope our friends will recollect
Mr. Kimbrough and bis claims, for
without- disparaging the claims of
any one else, Mr. Kimbrough will
make a good officer, is a gentleman,
and served the State in the hour
of need in the army. In peace he
asks to serve her now. Who will
de.,y her claim ?’’
MARRIED.

The marriage ceremony was per
formed at 1 o’clock, and the party
were invited to the dining room
whore a most magnificent dinner was
prepared. The bridegrooms father
gave them an infair at night, where
all went “as merry as a marriage

of the happy couple snd wero both
nice entertainments. W e congratu

A Trip to Meriwr i er.
We made a (Ling trip to White
Sulpher Springs and to Greenville
lat week. We noticed that the cot
ion field* along the route looked hlaok
and the cotton about al! picked out.
At White Sulpher Springs these
lino* involuntarily came to mind !
“I feci like one who tread* alone,
Bomc banquet all deserted."
The gay, hapny and giddy crowd
who had assembled for a tew weeks
recreation during the summer had i
all returned to their homes, and the |
Hotel end the cabins were almost i
entirely deserted.
Greenville is a pretty little eoun- j
try town of two or three hundred |
inhabitants, and bears a striking re* j
semblance to Hamilton, Wo made
a call on brother Ilevill of the Vin
dicator, who extended us a cordial
welcome and courtesies which were
appreciated. The I indicator under
his lead is in a prosperous condition,
and is a paper that keeps up with
the times in the general issues of the
day. We found the editor one of
those genial courteous gentlemen,
with whom it Is a treat to meet.
We also had the pleasure of meet
ing the Hon. H. R. Harris, and the
oftener we meet with him the more
re we convinced that the Fourth
District has acted wisely in a-lec’iiig
this noble, self sacrificing, Christian
gentleman for a Representative in
Congress.
Parson Winslow, of the Green
ville House, treated us like a lord,
and we will long remember the Par-*
son with gratitude for his kind at
tention, and when our friends visit
Greenville we advice them by all
meant to atop with Person Wine
low.
Our visit to Men whether was
quite a pleasant one, and we found
every one with whom we came in
contact sociable, pleasant and agee
able.
The Cantata.
l4y reference to the pregramme
which we publish to-day, it will be
seen that the Cantata which comes
off at the Cos 1 ege, just one week
from 10-day, bids fair to be very in
teresting. The President ha< put
the price of admission at uch low
figures that all in ay a-tend, and wo
guarantee that no one will leave t* l ®
hall fueling that it was not twenty
five cents well spent. Aside from
the pleasure to be derived, all who
attend will be assisting in the pu -
chase of a bell for the College, and
there aro certainly none but what
would he glad to hear the sound of
a bell from the College. Then let ns
all attend, and |iersuade others to do
likewise.
Mkkiweiiikk Jail. —While on a
visit to Greenville recently, we be
gan to bo alarmed for fear the war
was about to break out again, as we
saw the Sheriff forming the citizen
in battle array, and making arrange
ments as though he intended to “hold
the city at all hazards.’’ On inquiry
we learned that the frontdoor of the
j i! had been broken open and Cob
Faber was afraid some of the pr sen
e’s had e-ustped. On entering the
jail, Lashly the only prisoner, told
thejSheriff to “do himself no harm’’
as he was right there. Lashly killed
a negro and has been sentenced to
twenty years in the penitentiary.
The editor of the Hamilton Jour
nal judging from his paper, was as
much elated at the reported
election of Uncle Sum, just
after the 7th, a* any man we know
of. In the exuberance of his feelings
he got off the following expressive,
but rather undignified paragraph :
“Tilden is elected, rear upon your
hind legs and howl.’’. —[Carrolton
Times.
if the election of Uncle Sam is not
enough to make a fellow rear upon
his hind legs and howl, then he must
certainly be “lost to los.”
Wa opine that even our dignified
confrere, Drofher Sharp, would give
one email whoop.
Gjxk to Alaii am Mr, Willie
MoCanls and hi* family left Hamil
ton laat Monday for Jefferson, Ala.,
where he will go into business.
We regret the necessity of losing
such good cuizen*, snd commend
him to tiie confidence of the people
with whom ho anticipated locating,
It seems that the good places are
always ahead and this notion of
Willie’s deprives ns of two good
citizens.
That Stealing Frolic.— ln our
last issue wo stated that a wagon
and pair of mules had been stolen
from Mr. John Toler. This wns a
mistake. A wagon and horse waa
stolen from"Mr. Janies Toler, but he
has since recovered them. The thief
abandoned them in the woods near
Mr. Tolers house and they were
found noxt day. The cotton wa# the
property of Mr. G. A, R dding, and
if it has not been recovered we are
uot apprized of it.
