Editorial Mention.
We are surprised that anybody
should think that it is not the duty
of a newspaper to faithfully pre
sent both sides of every question
of public interest, llow else are
the people to form correct opinions.
It is a weak cause that tho truth
will hurt.
Count Johannes B. Gormanne,
of the Talbotton Register and
Gorman’s Talbot County Rice
Grove, having shown his eminent
qualifications as a husnand-tnan,
by his exhibit at tho late State Fair,
has now abandoned t'ne epistolary
mode of courtship, and proposes to
throw himself boldly—so to speak
—into the very arms of the matri
monial cycione now sweeping the
State.
There is less talk of emigration
from this State to the West thiß
season than usual. This is one of
the most hopeful signs of the times
we have noted. As soon as our
people determine to stay where
they are, and go to * work to im
prove their homes, we may look
for an era of prosperity. Until this
change is made, there will be no
substantial piosperity, not even
with cotton at 15 cents.
General Gordon is now the
champion of the party of addition,
division and silence. That is, he is
in favor ot the latter, just at this
time, and we suppose he couldn’t
be in political favor if he did not
believe and practice the former
We commend, respectfully, to bis
consideration the experience of the
fool at the fail —his foolishness was
discovered and he never said a
word. Let Southern representa
tives represent southern sentiment
and the democratic party will not
suffer.
—We saw a perfect beauty the
otner day in the way of a top bug
gy, as durable too as lasty. On en
quiry found that it came from the
shops of iV. E. Jones of West
Point. Mr. Jones established his
works at that place twelve or four
teen years ago, and has always
done the very best kind of work.
Christmas is Coming.
The season of joy, affection and every
kindly feeling. Nothing contributes
more to increase the pleasnrableness o
this happy season, than a goog, useful and
handsome “Chrismas Gift,” something of
permanent value and high merit. There
fore, we call attection to the faot that the
publisbess of the Christian Index, James
P. Harrison & Cos., Atlanta, Ga-, offer to
send to new anbsribers to thia sterling
Christian family paper, who will remit
$3.60 for one year’s subscription, a copy
of “The Story of the Bible,” a splendid
ly illustrated work of seven hundred
pages, as a Christmas Gift to the subscri
ber. We advise onr readers to take ad
vantage of this extraordinary offer. Sub
scribe for the Index, for yourself, or some
friend, and make him or her a present of
this book as a “Christmas Gift.” It con
tains 700 hundred octavo pages, and 27q
illustrations.
CONSUMPTION CURED.
An old physician, returned ftom prac

bronchitis, catarrh, asthma, and all throat
and lnng affections, also a positive and

nervous complaints, after having tested
its wonderful curative powers in thousands
