ANNOUNCEMENT^.
For Clerk Superior Court.
I am a candidate tor re-election to the
office of Clerk of the Superior Court, sub¬
ject to the action of tha Democratic par iny
,y, and earnestly solicit the enpport of
fiends. A. F. Tbuett.
Harris Superior Court.
The October term of Harris court
adjourned Friday, after a five days
busy session. An examination of. the
minutes shows that the court render¬
ed 35 judgements by default, 18 ver¬
dicts, dismissed 13 suits, 1 was with¬
drawn, 4 announced settled, ro crim¬
inal cases transferred to dead docket,
several criminals plead guilty, and
137 cases were continued. Willis
Scott was convicted of burglary and
sentenced to the penitentiary 5 years.
W. L. Culberson, was sentenced to
pay a fine of $250, or twelve months
on the chain gang, for being guilty of
adultery. Other persons were fined
smaller amounts for various offences.
Mr. W. J. Hall of Talbotton passed
a very creditable examination and
was admitted to the bar. The grand
jury found 14 true bills.
The Bottle in the Closet.
Some slv old fellows have a habit of
keeping heir brandy bottle under lock
and key, where nobody but themselvfs
can get at it. They ibiok. nobody knows
bow often they go to i‘, but a red nose
sometimes tells the b.le 1 mder than words
can speak it. The “bottle iu the closet,”
if it contains brandy,is very mischievous,
lint a “bottle in the closet,” full of Pei
ry Davis’s Pain Killer, is jast wbat no
family oan aifoid to be without.
In the Sleeping Car from Chica¬
go,
A lady sat with her only child;
Tbs poor little fellow WuS almost wild.
He was making a noise 1 ke a circus band,
For a horrible felon was on his hand.
A qniet old man remarked to the raothei:
“I think we can stop this pain and bother
I’ve a bottle of l’ain Killer, here” said he,
“And I think it will cure him;let us see.”
He poured seme drops on a moistened
rag,
And wrapped the felon as if in a bag,
And soon the suffering child was calm
As th# voice of a summer evening psalm.
