“Fence” or “No Fence.”
Tkis is a question again to come
the last trial ot the question, were in
favor of "fence,” it does not follow
that the next one will show a like re¬
sult. We have seen a great many
that voted the “fence” ticket before
who will vote for “no-fence” and use
all their influence in that way hereaf¬
ter. Some of them have visited
counties in which the stock law was
passed. They say the people of these
counties are highly pleased with the
law that is benefical to all classes.
1 conversed not long since, with a
man from T» oup county upon this
question. He says those who voted
against the law, would not, for any
consideration, have it abolished. The
landlord likes it because he does not
have to spend all he makes above a
support, to keep his land fenced.
With a very little expense, he is ena
bled to fence a good pasture for his
stock. He reduces the number of
his cattle, hogs, &c., attends to them
better and realizes more profit from
them than before. The law is bene
ficial to the renter from the fact that
the land owner having no fences to
keep up, except around the pasture,
can afford to rent his land at a low
price. The renters and croppers put
their stock in the landlord's pasture
and help repair the fences around it.
Now, we would not, knowingly, rec¬
ommend a law that would be dretri
'^ n ^l to the people, but we think
that the stock law would prove to be
beneficial to the county at large.
