New Life
is given by using Brown’s
Iron Bitters. In the
Winter it strengthens and
warms the system; in the
Spring it enriches the blood
and conquers disease; in the
Summer it gives tone to the
nerves and digestive organs;
in the Fall it enables the
system to stand the shock
of sudden changes.
In no way can disease be
so surely prevented as by
keeping the system in per¬
fect condition. Brown’s
Iron Bitters ensures per¬
fect health through the
changing seasons, it disarms
the danger from impure
water and miasmatic air
and it prevents Consump¬
tion, Kidney and Liver Dis¬
ease, &c.

WATCHING CHILDREN.
Bill Arp tloes oft - on a Familiar
Subject.
It takes two or three sticks of
wood to make a tire and jesso it
takes two or three boys to get up a
big lot of fun and make mischief.
1 always feel sorry for a family that
has but one child, for the parents
live in continual fear that something
dreadful will happen and the child is
apt t>gro*v up selfish and don't know¬
how to twee the world as it comes.
Children have to rub against one
another just like grown folks, they
must have their little fusses and fights
their trials and troubles, or else they
won’t he prepared for the rough and
tumble life that is sure to come when
thev get grown. 1 heard a man say
that he and his wife were perfectly
miserable when they had but one
child and watched the little tel’.ow
all tire time for fear he would fall in
the well, or get run over by a wagon,
or get sics and die, but after awhile
another one came along and they
didn’t worry so much and by and by
they kept coming along until they
had ten and they were just turned
loose Itice cattle in a range and you
couldent hurt ’em and they fell in no
well, and never got drowned in the
river, nor took the small pox, nor got
run over by the cars, and they knew
everybody and everybody’s business
and was always hunting up mischief
and having a heap of fun. Large
families are happier than small ones
and after awhile they have more in¬
fluence in society, for the children
marry and settle down to business
of one sort or another and that
unites a good many families into one
and they all stand up to one another
and help one another and weed a
wide row in society. I was rtunina
ting on this the other day as I watch
ed the l ttle chaps perambulate
1 around. Our little children and our
grand children are about o-t a size
and when thev get together it is hard
to tell tother from which, uncles from
nephews, and nobody’s children can’t
beat them in contrivance and inven¬
tion and new found ways to have a
good time and keep their maternal
ancestors in a state of commotion
and .alarm. Their mothers say that
they are uncommon good looking
! and uncommon smart and think they
will all he presidents, or governors or
United,Stales senators some day if
, they are not cheated out of their
rights, but still these little chaps wor
ry them no little,.
Last Sunday they were all taken
to church and they looked so meek
and innocent and were dressed so
nice that Mrs. Arp was proud of her

was all because the young lady’:
feather was too long and Mrs. Art
said they behaved vety bad, but she
didn’t think they meant any harm by
it, and when they gi t older the)
would know better and so that set
tied it. and the next tiling I knew
the boys had the old Toni cat shut
up in one side of my valise with a
little of his tail out, and the puppy
dog in the other side and the cat was
a meowing and scratching, and the
[Hippy a barking, and all four of the
little chaps were dancing around with
delight.
I sent the boys off tolled, the other
night, in a little room which has boog
ers in it, they say, and they frolicked
and tumbled in the bed until the lire
died out and we all had retired, and
here they all conje a miming like a
passel of skered sheep, and declared
they heard somebody under the bed,
so l had to get up and strike a light
and show ’em that there was n’t and
then put ’em all back to bed again
with a spank. That’s not so imrea
sonable for children lor Napoleon
said that everybody was a coward in
the daik and L know thrown folks who
look under the bed every night before
they blow out the candle. But it
has always been my opinion that we
old people got a big scare in our
youth from lire old darkies who used
to tell us about ghosts and witches
and jack-o’kuiterns and graveyards,
and we would listen to ’em by the
flickering cabin lights until we didn’t
dare to look round, and we wouldn’t
have gone to the big house atom! for
a world full of gold, but those good
old times are gone and the children
growing up now have no itch excuse
for being cowards. When I used to
go courting I had to pass a graveyard
in the suburbs of the little village,
and it was a test of my love and de
votion that I braved its tarots in the
darkest night, and set at defiance the
wandering spirits that haunted my
[rath.. But as ‘1 tell Mrs. Arp, 1 don’t
know nary othei girl that could have
made me so brave and so reckless.
Jesso. Bn.1, Arp.
