I he weather lias ! '<en nod still is

it was about sixtv hve degrees colder
in the great northwest than it was
here. Had it been as many de¬
grees warmer we would have heard
of the distressing heat.
Mrs. I.'utg'r'. the pTUtct and
naughtiest big f>ot woman in the
wide wide world, is in Atlanta this
week. She will not visit Hamilton,
as did O:ctr W ide, our other En¬
glish cotr in, who after her has most
lets in for pronouncing fool and us a his nation of
fools, if only “the mon¬
ey are soon parte 1.”
Albany having declared her ina
bility to properly care for the Geor
gia agricultural convention, Colonel
Tom Hardeman, President of the
State Agricultural Society, has named
Macon in its stead. The convention
will meet February aoth.
It will be remembered that the
Journal warned i*s readers against the
now defunct matrimonial association
swindles. The Georgia Provident
Association of Atlanta is even a
broader, though somewhat similar
swindle. If you have surplus cash
you can-lend it to some of our Har¬
r's county farmers, on good security,
at 15 per cent per annum, and you
will find it safer than stock in these
inushroon associations.
Mr. Librarian Moon, of the Col¬
umbus Public Library, attention we are glad
to see has called the ot the
directors to the fact that a number
of the citizens of towns adjacent and
tributary to that city desire member
jiliip in the association. Many of
our citizens would doubtless be glad
to avail themselves of its well tilled
library, and we would be glad to
bear of the favorable action of the
diiectors in the matter.
