prospect very good, the area larger
than usual and the planters hopeful
of the future. There are many mod

road in the county where one may
travel for half a day and not pass a
single farm where his horse could not

Last Sunday being Easter, Rev. R
M. Lockwood preached in the morn¬
ing a sermon appropriate to the day,
his theme being the resurrection of
Christ He introduced the subject
by the remark that the faith of the
church was not so much in Christ as
a divine teacher, nor even as a work
er of miracles ; these were collateral
and subsidiary only. It was rather ■
in the inherent power of Christ over
death and the grav#, as proven by his
own lesurrection, at the time and in
the manner foretold by Him. The
several points as elaborated by Mr.
Lockwood were these:
That such a person as Christ lived.
That he was publicly executed and

day his body was not in the tomb.
' removed
His friends could not have
it. Their expectations were disap¬
pointed by his arrest, their cowavdise
at the time precluded the idea that
they would have resisted the Ro nan
guard, or broken the seal of the gov¬
ernment by which the entrance to
the tomb was secured.
Enemies did not remove it. They
could have had no motive to remove
the body—or they could have expo¬
sed the imposition, if imposition there dead
had been, by producing the
body during the forty days in which
it was alleged He was seen alive.
There was concurrent testimony,
by different persons at different times
of his appearance in His identical
body, during a period of forty days.
The deductions from the argument
of Christ’s resurrection were:
That physical death is the inevita¬
ble end of natural life.
That death is not the final end ot
our existence. bodies shall , be

raised spiritual bodies, but shall not
lose their identity.
That there shall be two resurrec¬
tions : firsCof those who die in Christ
and then of those who in life reject
ed him. closed tins discourse

to dread not the gloom of the grave,
and in a solemn appeal to the con¬
gregation generally to be prepared saving
for the first resurrection, by a
faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
