Local Brevities.
Rev. J. J. Ansley of Columbus, is
in our city.
• Overcoats were comfortable and in
■demand Tuesday.
Our readers will be g’a.d to hear
f rom “Big Mike” again and often.
Early peas and potatoes now re¬
ward the toil of the eaily gardener.
Our college boys conducted them¬
selves very creditably in Columbus
■on memorial day.
Broad street Sunday School of Co
lumbus wil’ picnic at Chipley next
Saturday.
The Hamilton Cadets are well
drilled, and Thursday demonstrated
the fact fully and satisfactorily.
Mr. A. H. Stevens, of Ilurtsboro,
Ala., spent Thursday night in our
city, the guest of his brother Mr. E.
T. Stevens.
The man in linen Tuesday after¬
noon thought December might be as
pleasant as May, and not pleasant to
brag on at that.
Work on the col'ege chapel is pro¬
gressing very satisfactorily. Before
very long we hope to announce that
the entire building is complete.
At their meeting Monday night have our
Hamilton firemen resolved to
an anniversary celebration on the
31st, and elected Col. B. H. Walton
•orator.
Very heavy rains fell Monday night
throughout the county, and water
courses were so high Tuesday morn¬
ing that comparatively few people
were in town.
J£The money spent for wbveke; in
Hamilton within the past ,-ea woud
eiect a building such as our college
and furn'sh it. Yet we boast of the
refinement of our people and then
sobriety.
A farmers’ picrfic will be given a*
the Grange Hail, in Valley Plains
district, on the 3d Saturday in May,
and we have bee t authorized to ex¬
tend a cordial invitation to every¬
body—come and bring your basket.
The Georgia Major dropped in on
us last w.:ek. Spuag )S having ami a
delightful effect upon the major,
he is as goss’py as an old mai l who
has come to spend the day and
brought her knitting.
JoMsoi & ?crte\ of Columbus,
have .he -.ra-'oesc bargains in hats .o
be found anywhere. For fif.y cen.s
they se’> a hat that cannot be dupli¬
cated it the city for Having
bouyht a b"r ain in hats, they pro¬
pose to share their fortune with their
friends and patrons.
Searching for drugs, medicines,
chemicals, stationery, school books,
or toilet articles, don’t forget that Dr.
Riley keeps a full stock of the best,
and that his cash prices paints, are the oils very and
lowest. His stock of
va-nishes is fu'l,. ?nd his prices cannot
be bettered anywhere.
At the quarterly conference of the
WhitesviUe circuit, at Mountain Hill
church, last Saturday and Sunday, it
was resolved that the Sunday schools
of the circuit have an annual union
celebration, and a committee was ap
pointed to select a time and place for
the first celebration, in accordance
with the resolution.

the Grand Lodge, A. O. U. W., of
Georgia, Alabama md Florida, now
in session a Talbotton. The dele¬

the good peop'e of Talootton.
A ck Ham 'ion'an sent a d*spa»ch

The following day he recove-ed su f -
