bright page in the history of the
town.
The programme, as published in
these columns, was strictly adhered

of one hundred and fifty, with the
beautiful steamer ot Columbus No.

the public squae, where Mayor
Brooks tendered them the f.cedo.n

At 3 o’clock the grand procession
.vas fo. inefi on College hill and
marched up the street to the depot,
thence back to the hotel, where,[after
>. parade drill by the cade.: , the fire
brigade was inspected.
After this came the race, which
resulted in a record of 37 J seconds
for Hamilton, against 47 .! lor Col
limbus. In the language of Mat O’
15., our hoys propose to “beat ’em
next time, 1/ Bet.”
The steamer was brought or.t and
for some time interested the immense
crowd of spectators, throwing water
in several streams.
The prize, a handsome silver wa¬
ter p’tcher, was tendered the win¬
ners by Judge lliulson, in bis happi¬
est style, but they returned it as a
token of their appreciation of Ham¬
ilton’s hospitality.
A banquet was saved in the din¬
ner hall, after partaking heartily of
which the companies, headed by the
band, repaired to Barnes & Sparks’
grove, which was beautifully lighted,
where ice cream and liquid refresh¬
ments were served. At 10 o’clock
visitors departed, carrying with
them the best wishes of Hamilton's
No. 1 tire company.
