Local Brevities.
Many of our townspeople will visit
White Sulphur Springs this week.
Mr. Clarence Edge returned to
to Columbus Monday, greatly im
proved in health.
A number ot Columbus people
spent Sunday m Hamilton.
Travel on the Columbus & Rome
railroad was never better, nor the
road ever better prepared to accom¬
modate it.
Mr. E. T. Stevens has removed
with his family to Macon.
Mr. Calvin Johnstone has been
placed in charge of the railroad and
telegraph office here, vice E. T. Ste¬
vens, resigned.
We learn that crops in the
eastern part of the county are suf
fering greatly for rain. About Chip
ley it is also dry, while at Hamilton
a good rain would be greatly appre
ciated.
Messrs A. O. and John Blackmar,
prominent citizens of Columbus,
spent last Sunday in Hamilton.
Some of the boys from Columbus
got left last Sunday, but our girls
didn’t do it.
Johnny Mobley has a patch of
cotton waist high that was planted
first of June. After making
him a good crop of barley, the patch
promises to yield a crop of cotton
the same year equaling a bale per
acre at least. If the entire county
was cultivated as this patch has been
it would soon become the wealthiest
section 111 the world. There is every
reason why we should raise two crops
where we now make one, and our
farmers can never realize their great
advantage over other sections until
they do.
Mr. Joe Storey, oi Cbijney, has
one 01 the prettiest little farms 111
the county.
Watermelons a r e more plentiful
but prices remain high. The Colum¬
bus nickel melon commands twenty
cents in Hamilton.
There are some good crops in and
around Hamilton.
Dr. T. F. Brewster has our thanks
for public documents.
Sunday was anotner of the warm
davs that you read about.

her own statement had been very

Bun Miller.
Concerning the cl aractcr of this
m -n who ti e i in our j til two week,
since, the Eufaula Dady Uulietia has
the following:
is ] |“ ]e ^ on «<
the , fact that Dan Miller pe.petrated
nearly or quite all of the burglaries
at night that were reported here du
ring last winter and up to the mid.lie
of April, as since his departure noth
ing of the sort has transpired. With
the people of Chipley we rejoice that
the dangerous, desperate and bold
scoundrel is finally disposed of. It
shows that men o. this ilk are bound
sooner or later t > come to grief. The
strong hand of he law, supported by
all good and he nest people, is raised
against them, md it is merely a
question of time as to when they
will fall before it. Let Dan’s career
be a warning to his race and deter
any member of it in our midst from
following in his career of crime.”
