II AM r ETON, GEORGIA,
The democratic executive com
of -, the 4th congressional . , dis- ..
mit ee
trict met at West Point last
day and resolved upon the call for a
nominating convention to be held in
that place on Wednesday, August
6th. The session was harmonious.
Cleveland or Bayard is the coming
president. The latter has the sup¬
port of many of our best citizens,
while all agree that if he were as
available as Cleveland, he would
make as good a nominee. His state
is too small for his or his party’s good
The Georgia delegation is almost a
unit for Cleveland.
The state convention at Atlanta
last week selected Messrs E. P. How¬
ell, A. R. Lawton, A. O. Bacon and
Patrick YCalsh, delegates to Chicago
for the state at large, with General
Young, Col. J. H. Estill, Capt. W. A.
Little and Hon C. C. Kibbee as al¬
ternates. Col. F. M. Longley of La
Grange and Hon. J. H. Martin,
Talbotton, were elected delegates
for this congressional district, with
L. P. Madervill, of Carroll and G. M.
Williams of Muscogee as alternates.
