GENERAL PRESENTMENTS. __ Harris Kupcrior Court, April Term, 1885 . The grand jury drawn and quali¬ fied to serve for the present term would respectfully present that they find peace and good older generally prevalent throughout the county, few oOencts against that peace and good order ha/ing come to our Knowledge. We have examined the books of our county officers and find that they have been faithful in the discharge of their various duties, and we con¬ gratulate the county upon having micU faithful and efficient public scr vants. We find the county out of debt with no balance in the treasury, small balance due on collectors books, but executions in the hands of bailiff* for collection. 1 lie pub'ic school fund for the yc r was $6,132.44. Amount paid o eachers $5,136.83. Total expen ires $5,457.43, leaving a balance *» hand of $674.01. We ,vould urge upon the district trustees to look well to the schools taught in their district and see that they are well taught and have the average at¬ tend mce required by law to enable them to participate in the school fund. The public buildings we find m goo 1 condition and property looked after, except the jail. We find it safe, but in a bad condition as to cleanliness and health, due partly to bad ventilation, which owing to 11s construction will be almost impossi¬ ble to remedy without considersble cost, which change we will not now recommend; owing to the financial condition of our people, but we think that the cleanliness and health iulncss of the jail could be greatly promoted by the proper observance of sanitary regulations, and we rect the jailer to use every means , to secure the comfort health of the prisoners therein. We recommend the ty Commissioners to grade the 01 thi ^!l or acc ? ldin 8 >° tlle nul b.-r of prisoners m his charge, forty cems r per dav the tor . keeping . down. 1 , ana scaie %% rii'Yih^r t turnucr irr We recommend the county com* missioners to sell the county male academy property, located in the town of Hamilton, and cover pro¬ ceeds in the county treasury. The roads and bridges in the coun¬ ty we find arc needing attention. We earnestly urge the road commission¬ ers in the various districts to see to it that the public loads under thAr supervision are put and kept in the condition which the law directs. The bridge across the Ossahatchee creek at the residence of H. L. Lowe needs re-building at once. Wc call special attention cf the road commissioners of Elierslie district to a fence which has been placed in tine road between the Ossahatchee creek ahd the residence of Mrs Ingram. The magistrates’ books handed in for examuv.tion we find properly % kept, • the except m some cases prop¬ er entries are not made. No books were handed in from the following districts, to-wit: Hamilton, Wavcriy Hall, Elierslie. Whitakers and Up per 19th. We recommend the appointment of the following Notaries Public, to fill vacancies, viz: B. F. Hudson in 934th district, W. A. Clark in 717th district and G. A. Myhand in the 78ist. In parting from his honor, Judge Simmons, who has so ably and ur 1 banely presided during the present term, we would give expression to our high appreciation of his charac ter and tearning as - a jurist an(1 our obligation lor courtesies from him during our session, And for our able and efficient So licitor General, 'T.
