IVI Wfbji, ns a candidate for the i Sire of Clctk of the Inferior Court Meriwether cou ty, at the ensuing January election. - ELECTION RETURNS We request our editorial brethren to send us strips, which we will cheetlully reciprocate. ‘ ‘DA VID J. BA ILE I ’ 5 FREE S OIL RECORD.” This is the caption of an article in yea tenlayV Macon MfSS'Vger, in which the editor show's that Col. Bailey was in fa ror of w hite folks controlling the elections of Georgia, ami not negroes. What a terrible chatge against a candidate for Congress. We presume, front the posi tion taken Gy"* the Messenger, that Col. 1 tippe did r< from Col Bailey on this subject, and is in favor of the negroes Look out how you vote for a candidate who wi-hes two negroes to have more weight at the foils, in Georgia, than a white man. it is all of a piece with the A'germe iaw, and designed to give the rich the control of the poor. The editor of the Messenger calls it nr. unexplained i vote. Winn explanation does he want?] Ihe vcte explains itself. Mr. Baiiey wanted white men to vote in Georgia, and not negroes. JUDGEJOHNSON ANDCOL. BAILEY. The Chronicle find Sentinel has already j commenced the Whig Corn Dance, at the heel of the election, with an all-fired brand new’ charge against the above gentlemen, j in substance as follows: That while Col. j David .1. Bailey was acting as Director of the Central Bank and Judge Johnson was his law partner, he (Bailey) put some of the claims of the Bank into the hands of Judge Johnson for collection ! There i> the whole charge Not one word that these notes were put into the hands of an attorney by an order of the Legislature. Not a word that some uttornev had to ( execute the business. Not a word that it) was faithfully ex cuted by 11. Y. John son. But Judge Johnson ought to have been professionally proscribed by Col. Bailey, because he had once been his part ner—for it appears he was not so then— at least in that business. Mr. Bailey had been connected in business with Judge Johnson—he knew him to be prompt, energetic and capable in his profession— he was directed to have certain claims of the bank collected —he knew* no one more competent for the business than Judge Johnson, and he put it into his hands, i where it was executed to the satisfaction of those who confided in him. Now is not that a terrible charge? What next ? Communicated. School Examination. Come up Charley. What is the latiu of Conservative Re publican? Conservativa Rcspubiies. What part of speech is it? Substantive fs it simple or compound? Both, sir. How? I Very simple in design, compound be-j cause composed of all the fragments and I tag-ends of all parties, W hat gender is it? Feminine, sir. Why* Case it belongs to the weaker catego ry. Pont you think it is rather neuter? Yes sir, now I think on it, it is neither one nor t’other, case it is of no particular, [ but of the cpeeenc gender, promiscuous j substantive nouu, so as to suit any mea-1 sure in political poetry. ” ho founded this structure? Messrs Oh! lieu! Proh!. Decline conservativa respublica. Conservativa respublica, conservative re publican, of the Ist declension of all sorts of genders j What number is it? Singular number, sir. Why? Case it is very singular in being, design, purpose and policy; wants us all to be lieve they only are the patriots of our country, and they only can save it from all tho rest of us, though we and all our interests are bound up in its prosperity, just as if we were fools enough to burn our own homes, or bite off our noses to spite our faces. In what case is this long compound noun? In the vocative, sir. Why in the vocative? Case when any one is in the last case of trouble, he is said to be in the vocative. A Dutch doctor told me once his patjent was in the foocative ( vocative.) What do yon mean, sir? Vy I means he ish dead. Ish not dat foocative. You httle imp what do you mean? I mean sit, the Conservative Republican men are in the “foocative.” What governs it in that case? Oh! lieu! and proh! What’s the rule? Oh! beuj and proh! govern the voca tive. What is Oh! lieu! and proh? Mr. Toombs, Mr, Stephens and Mr, Jenkins. How will you make that out? Case they voted for a man in the voca tive, Daniel Webster. What do them words mean? Ah! Ala-.! Good heavens! Vote fora dead man for President of the United States, and tied Jenkins to him; cruel, cru el, cruel. What does Solomon say about this? A living dog is better than a dead lion. After they voted for a dead man can they expect living men to vote for them? No, sir’ee. Come, sir, don’t be disrespectful. Is there no way to get the Conservative Re-’ publicans out of the vocative? Yes, sir’ee. Well, that is benevolent, now? Why next Friday ramjam them with roast turkey, roast shoat, mutton, beef and bread, and all sorts of conservatives from Ihe confectionaries, but all must re member the “memorial” and keep sober.— There is nothing like fighting with, a full belfy. I'he vocatives at least are hospita ble people.’ They give dinners to their friends, before they embark, on Sait river. The same can’t be said foi* os“ Reunited.” What is your opinion about this com pound noun in general? . Wky sir, I say every man for hinlsplf ahd God for us all. Huzza for Georqia! Take yonr seat sir. ABLATIVE. OBITUARY. Departed this life in Macon, Ga September 9il<* 1853, Al.XanDer Johnston, second sun of Mrs. A, J.
