TO GIVE a still wider*clrculation to the Bk
publican, and thereby to bring Savannah
and its business more prominently before Ihe coun
try, the Proprietors offer their Daily paper at
$5 00 a year, andtlbeir Tri-Weekly at $3,00, to
all new subscribers who pay in advance. To
their present subscribers who do not choose to
pay in advance, Ihe paper will be furnished at the
reduced rates on and after the first of Januarr,
and those who have paid in advance will be cred
ited accordingly.
We propose also to issue a Wceklv paper, com
mcncing early in ;N'ovenifc , rr, at $2,00 a year, to
he paid for invariftSly in advance. To clubs of
ten, the Weekly wifi be furnished at $15,00.
Wc make this reduction in the ffi-Jbe ol the Re
publican lor three reason* First, because we
desire to scatter the paper overthis and the adjoin
ing States, in order, as far as we are able, to ex
tend the relations and increase the business of
Savannah, believing that whatever promotes the
of the city cannot fail to exert a hemfi
cial effect upon uur own fortunes. The great fa
cilities we possess for distributing daily, tri wi ek
ly, and weekly intelligence, by otir railroad con
nections and steamboat; lines, encourage us to be
lieve that the undertaking will bs, because it
ought to be. successful.
Secondly, because other papers throughout the
country are reducing their rates of subscription,
and we would place our readers upon a looting as
favorable as that enjoyed by the readers of those
papers.
Thirdly, because we shall never be more able
to make the ieduction than at present. Wc would
not boast of our success, yet we beg leave to say
that the support which our patrons have accorded
us up to this us to me.ke this reduc
tion, and thus to offer some s'ight acknowledg
ment for their past lavors. We hope they will
sec in this fact reason for a continuance ot their
pationage, and for such efforts as they may find
it convenient to make in procuring us additional
subscribers. The step we iiave resolved upon
’ must result in loss, without a large acccssiou to
our subscription list.
The growing importance of Savannah, as a
commercial centre, to Ihe Planter, the Merchant,
and indeed to all classes, at least in this StaU,
renders it unnec ssary for us to offer any argu
ment why they should avail themselves oflhe
means thus offered, for obtaining the latest and
most reliable intelligence from all quarters, both
by telegraph and the mails.
Remittances by mail may he made at our risk.
