the death rff Don A M. j) Kixo, former
’ndivp of fids Circuit, ‘’ hereupon, court
nd.’ourned to Friday morning, 25tli inst.—
A Tucotoin- of the members of the bar was
then convened. His Honor, .T. H. Stark,
in tin* Chair, and ('ol. Rufus W. McCune,
actinpr as Secretary.
On motion of A. L. Borders, Esq., a
onmm'tfoe o’ fvo was appointed to report
suitable resolutions in reference to the de
ceased. The Chair appointed as that
committee Mai. Henry Moor, Col Z. E.
Harman, A. f . Borders, Esq., Col. A. R. ;
Moore and D. N. Viartin, Esq.
1 he meeting then adjourned.
SATURDAY MORNING, NOV. 20.
T he meeting of the members of the bar
again convened; when Mai. Henry Moor,
chairman of the committee, reported the
following resolutions:
Our meeting this morning is one of sad
ness and of sorrow. Since the last term
of this * onrt, death has invaded our pro
fessional circle. On the 6th day of Oeto
bor last Col. “m. W Wiggins, a member
of this bar, in the 40th year of his age, de
parted this life. Col. Wiggins was born
in the county of Burke, was educated at
the University of his native State, and
studied law with Gen Thomas Glasscock
in the city of Augusta. In early life he
located in the county of Twisrgs, and by
energy and effort soon attained an honor
able position at the bar. He was elected
and for several years served as Solicitor
General of the Southern Circuit, and the
promptness and fidelity with which he dis
charged its duties rendered his official con
duct useful to the State, and highly cred
itable to himself. For many years he was
called by his fellow-citizens to represent !
them in both branches of the Legislature, j
and distinguished himself for industry, elo
quence and usefulness. Nine or ten!
months ago he settled in this city, where !
his kindness and attention—the offspring
of his noble heart, won for him, in this
community, many devoted friends. Asa
friend, a husband, a parent, a brother,
Col. Wiggins had but few equals and no
superior.-. And we cannot reconcile it to /
our feelings, to consign, in silence, such a :
man to the tomb. Therefore,
Resolved, That we deeply regret the |
loss of our brother Col. Wit. W. Wiggins, j
and offer to his bereaved family, our sin i
* *
cere sympathy. j
Resolved, That in token of our sorrow, j
we will wear the usual badge of mourning ;
for thirty days.
Resolved, That as a lasting testimonial
of the respect we cherish for the memory
of the departed the >uperior Court now
in session, Vie requested to have the fore
going entered on its minutes.
Resolve 1 tli-.it the Clerk of this Court j
furnish the family of Col. •’ iggins’ with :
a copy of these proceedings, and that they ,
be published in the city Gazettes.
We are also on this occasion called to
the melancholy duty of paying a tribute
of respect to tiie memory of another de
parted brother.
The Hon. A M D Kino, though at
the time of his death not a resident of our
Circuit, yet from its organization, was a
practitioner at our Oar, and for two con - j
seeu ive terms its presiding Judge. Itisj
therefore, peculiarly proper that we should I
pn v some respect to his memory.
Together with his brethren of the Cir- i
cult iii which lie died, we can bear ample j
testimony of his social qualities, his enii-!
neatly amiable disposition, and his great ;
moral worth. In the many trying scenes
of life through which he was called to pass,
in adversity as well as in prosperity, in
office and out of it, he preserved his honor
unsullied, ami maintained a character a
bove reproach. As a professional brother
he was ever kind and courteous, no one
more scrupulously avoided giving offence,
o* do anv thing to wound the feelings of
his brethren.
Asa man and a citizen, we do not ex
aggerate when we say, that he lived and
died, not only respected, but loved by all
who knew Mm. As the Judge of our
Circuit, Lis strict integrity, uprightness of
intention, and purity of morals ever com
mended public confidence.
His reverence for religion and its minis
ters, was deep and heartfelt; and he al
ways exhibited a peculiarly marked re
aped for the house of God In his last
moments he gave evidence that lie did not
filter ii that hope, which reaches beyond
tin* grave.
lie is gone, ami long shall we feel the
void made by his death.
Resolved, That we feel a deep and a
biding respect for the memory of our <ie
ce sod Brother, ami in manifestation of the
same, we ask his Houor Judge Stark, to
have these proceedings entered on the;
minutes of the Court.
Resolved, That copies thereof be fur
nished each of the papers in Griffin and
Macon for publication, and that the Clerk
of this Court forward a copy under the
Seal of his office to the family of the de
ceased.
After reading the resolutions, the meet
ing was addressed, by Hon A 11. Chap
pell, oi.Z E. Harman and A A. Gaul
ding, Esqr. in a pertinent, feeling and ap
propriate manner, whereupon the resolu
d,ns were unanimously adopted. Then
the meeting ajourned.

We propose also to issue a Weekly paper, corn

We make this reduction in the price ol the Re

tend the relations and increase the business ol
Suvamiah, believing that whatever promote.) the
prosperity of the city cannot fail to exert a benefi

lieve tliul the undertaking will be, because it
ought to be, successful.
Secondly, because other papers throughout the
country are reducing tb'lir rates of subscription,
and we would place our readers upon a looting as
favorable as that enjoyed by the read :rs of those
paperp.
Thirdly, because we shall never be more able
to make the ledoclion than at present. We would
not boast of our success, yet we beg leave to .-ay
that the support which our patrons have accorded
us up to this time, enables us to make this reduc
tion, and thus to oiler some slight acknowledg
ment lor their past lavors. We hope they will
see in this fact reason for a continuance ot then
patiomigc, and for such efforts as they may find
it convenient to make in procuring us additional
subscribers. The step we have resolved upon
must result in loss, without a large accession to
our subscription list.
i he growing importance of Savannah, as_ a

and indeed to all classes, at least in this titafi,
