The State ttoa4.
The following remark* on selling or
leasing the State Railroad, are so much
in consonance with our own views on the
suUj<“t. that wa copy them fnv tbe*use cf
our readers, as setting forth our own sen
timents. The road should W pot in com
plete order first, and then tried two or
three years by the State, to see what| it
would realize. If it yielded a fair profit,
the State would have the benefit of it. If
it did not., the State could not, in that
time, loose much more by it; and then
they should lease, soil or give it awav, rs
they could best dispose of it. But as yet,
the road has never been in order to lest
its capacity as to what it could make:
Salk or Lease of the St.atk Rail
foad. —A proposition baa been made for
ihe sab of the State Railroad; tM# ought
not and will not be adopted. Rot a pro
pusition is pending and has many advo
cates in the Legislature, to lease the
State Road to a Company to be formed
at the present session, at about the sum
of $300,000 per year, for 20 years.—
at present, going into the par
ticulars of the provisions of this bill, we
state our conviction that it would b** a ,
measure more injurious to the interest*
of the State than the sale of the Road.-
Notwithstanding its apparently fair pro
visions for allownig citizens in purchase
the stock in small quantities (five shares]
we believe this very provision wouUMbe
the means of concentrating the stock,
and consequently the entire control of
the work, in the hau ls of one or more of
ihe Railroad Companies connected with
i ! , or i” the hands < f other large capital
ists. Wt witnessed a similar ar
rangement for the disposition of the
stock of a Bank when were hired
hy a few individuuls to throng the place
end monopolize the whole.
There is a provision in the bill whioh
- nuthor'zes the Company to straighten the
Load and mike improvements, under
which it is not improbable that the debt
against the ‘Late to the Compa y would
be more ih*tn the |.ree of icn’; or at the.
end ot the 20 years, the Stale would
owe the Company i debt-equal to the
original of ti:g Reid.
But without reference to the provi
sions of the btil, we may state it r.s an
axiom that in any such contiact between
the Nute'and individuals the Stut&trould
be lorer, and in lividtials would be large
g..iners of money that belongs to the whole
people, and which would otherwise jg
into ‘he Treasury and diminish the taxes.
The Stcte road is just about to he com
pleted and equipped, the connection with
I.ashville has just been formed, the
Memphis road will connect with it with
in 18 months, the profits of ti e road will
w itoir the next tbie-’ years be a half mil
lion of doling per year, and will be con
stantly increasing. The people have
hoine the burden of construction, why
should rlify be deprived of ihe resulting
benefits! Either a sale or lease of the
State Road would be an irreparable iuju
ry to the State, and we doubt not that
the representatives of the tax payers in
the legislature will understand and pro
tect their interests.— Albany Patriot.

The particulars of this extraordinary case
are as follows:—Mr. Janies McDonald, a
native of Ireland, now residing at No. 7,
George yard. Whitechapel, was dischar
ged from the Navy in 1813 in consequence
of his leg having then been bad for two
years, and pronounced in Plymouth Hos
pital as incurab’e. During the former
long period he had had the advice of the
most, skillful surgeons iti London, Dublin,
and other places: Notwithstanding the
dreadful state of the-leg, and five and
thirty years of suffering, the limb is now
:-onndly healed by the use of Holloway’s
Ointment and Pills. •

To Professor Holloway:
Dear Sir: Mrs. Sarah Dixon of Li

period she was severely afflicted with
Scrofulous sores and ulcers in her arms,
feet, legs, and other parts of her body:
and although the first of medical advice
was obtnined, at the cost of a large sum
of money, she obtained no abatement of
suffering, but gradually grew wors°.
Be ng recommended by a friend to,try
your ointment, she procured a small pot,
and a box of the pills, and before that was
all used, svmp'oms of amendment appear
ed. By persevering with the medicines
for a short lime longer, according to the
directions, and strictly adhering le your
rules, as to diet, <Jv., she was pers
fectly cured, and now enjoys the best of
health. I remain, dear sir, yours truly,
