gaticn iiimbcr teette. DEPARTMENT" - Notice. Captain D. W. Davis, Postmaster, is duly authorized to receive and receipt for sub scriptions, &c., for the Gazette. local dots. __ the senior editor is at the State fair. May lie'return happy. Winter baa dually settled down in our ; egion. There was a alight float on Sunday night. —Excursions and picnics hao had their dny and must now rest until the spring -oiiies again. The last of the latter we had the pleasure of being one of the “lucky sports,” and never did a day pass quicker, or we leave so reluctantly, and as one of the “bhoys” remarked, ’tw.u “the mostest fun or the leaste >t money” they had experienced this year. —How long miles seem when a young man rides to see the idol of his heart; but how much longer must they be when he has to return, sadly disappointed in not seeing her. but, omnia vincit amor. —The “old Tycoon” was the recipient of a really due serenade Friday night of last week, and while we listened to the music, thought we would like to bo representative too. Thebe was a blow, a fail, and a fence .rail badly dam, ged at No. 1 Sunday. ’Tis in that way “our freedmon” settle their dis putes. He should nave used u crow bar, just to have given the blacksmith a job mending it —boiiE of our young men were so deeply imp, eased with the 1, ses sustained at the re cent dre, that they imagined night an other tire had broken out, and rushed to ;htir room, tumbled oeds, oedding, trunks, &c., iu a confused pile into tne entry. When they ‘ came loo” on n't tn,.re “cu.ss.n.” —We wish our “oiutspy Hollow" oet would call ou us; u ue n,„s no oojeefons we would like to ge, mm to write to, us at a salary of—well, say ten cents a year. —.M is.iiti. The finest looking man in Darien, (aud according to our jti lament, in Mclntosh County, / desires us to nominate .mu tor Con gress in 1878. He would, most undoubtedly be the right man in the right place, but as the next four years may be too long for some people to l enient la r, we will not give his name yet, but when the Cme arrives we will tlot him out with fly mg colors, tceling assured that he wid he supported by every true man iu the district. - -We understand that dining the late fire the only ladders to he found about town, were those of Capt. John if. Burrell, that be keeps at the custom house for use in case of his property getting on fire. The Capt tin is one ui our most public spirited fellow citizens, and says he he will present the city with one hundred and sixty feet of ladders, if the County Commissouers will accept of them, and we certainly think they will It behooves every one w io has a-liotise to keep a ladder, so that :n the event of fire they wid have the me..n.s at hand to ext inguish it. —Messrs. Wanneachle & Weil are dis posing of the goods saved from the fire at co.-t price preparatory to opening anew and complete stock when th cir new store is fin ished. Me noticed on Wednesday the arrival of the steam yacht Sap do, recently purchased by Messrs Spalding & MoKinzuy in Phila delphia. from which port she sailed last week. She is a neat little craft, aud will be put on a daily line from Darien to Doboy. V ur people have been complaining of the luconvenience of getting to Doboy, and so now that they, and tne public generally, are to have a daily line, we hope by liberal pat touage they will keep it up. —We have just heard of an infallible cure for chills, and give it for the benefit of sufferers: “Purchase a quart of good whis key, and in the morning before putting on your shoes pour into each, half a gill made hot, and put the shoes instantly on. In a few miuutes the whiskey 7 will be found to pass up into the system, permeating every part of the body with a pleasurable glow, and in the course of a few days, the remedy being repeated each morning, the disease 'ydl entirely disappear.” Now we have used the medicine prescribed; not as directed, bnt internally, where it is always good. Board of County Commissioners—Special Aleelin^. County Commissioners’ Office ) Dakien, October 16 1874. \ Present, his Honor T. P. Pease, Chairman; James L.ichlison. James Walker, and Thomas H. Giguilliat. Absent, .Messrs. Morris, Gil son, and Mclntosh. A quorum being present, the Chairman announced the meeting opened and ready for business. The special business of tlie day being to in vestigate the charges made by th# deputy Marshal against the Marshal was called up, and as material witnesses for the prosecution were absent the case was postponed until Friday, the ‘23d October. Mr. Walker moved that the absent wit nesses be sent lor to answer the charge, why they should not be adjudged in contempt ol court. The Marshal asked fra suspension from dutv until the charges preferred against him were acted upon, and it was lelt to the Chairman to do as he thought best in the matter. Moved by Mr. Lachlison that the time allowed for receiving plans and specifications for building a court house be extendi and to the next regular meeting, in November. A communication from tlie Health Officer was received and mad and ordereii spread U’>on the minutes, liis suggestions about building houses, etc., were referred to the Committee 011 Health. Tlie Chairman appointed the foliowii g committee, of citizens, to act upon the peti tion of Col. Barclay and othets relative to fire, Ac., and to make a report to the next regular meeting: Messrs. Churchill. Jos. Hil ton, John 11. Fisher, J. A. Atwood and Henry Todd. There being no further business the Board adjourned to meet again on the 23d October. .Spalding Kenan, Clerk, B. C. C.
