AN ORDINANCE.
An Ordinance to provide for the repair of wharf
lots aud the ereetiou of suitable pavements in
tbe City of Earien.
Sec. 1. Be it ordained that within —months af
ter noti is given, as heretofore prescribed, it
shall be ihe duty of all owners of wharves and
wharf lots, in the city of Darien, to place and
keep and wharves and lots at the|expense of their
respective owners thereof, in good order, 60 as to
prevent rue said earth and rubbish from washing
into the river, through or from said respective
wharves aud lots in conformity with instructions
of the City Surueyor of said city, who shall give
his attention whenever notified so to do.
Sue. 2. Be it further ordained, that it shall be
the duty of tbe owners of all improved lots in the
City of Darien, to contract and keep in repair at
the expence of the owners of each lot respectively
uxjou broad street, from Walker’s store, at the
h ad of said street on both sides oi said street to
I.ppiugs’ old office, pavements of brick or smooth
stone ol it t in width, well and substantially
laid, and upon all other streets in said city it shall
be the duty of each owner of an improved lotto
place down in front thereof in a substantial and
workmanlike manner a pavement, of wood, of the
width feet and each person, the owner of such
lot or lots, shall in putting down the pavements
hereintoiore required be bound to conform to tbe
levels and inclinations marked and jirescribed by
the city surveyor, whose duty it shall be to grade
and stake down the place to be paved both on the
line ol the lots aud the limits hereintoiore deter
mined on the st.r et, driving a stake at every 10
feet of the line and the said surveror shall attend
within 5 days alter he is requested to do so.
Si .3. Be it further ordam and that the Marshal
of said city shall give written notice to the owner
or owners of said wharves and wharf lots and to
the owners of all improved lots in said city of
Darien of tbe requirements of this ordinance and
when it is impossible to notify such owners be
done by' publication in the Darien Timber Ga
zetee for thirty days, and any one or more of the
above described persons who shall fail or refuse
to comply with the requirements of said ordi
uotice within months shall be liable to a fine
not to exceed dollars to be enforced beiore
the police court of the said city of Darien for each
day or such neglect or refusal, and execution shall
issue against tin- property of such delinquent per
son or persons in tne same manner as in other
easts for the violation of the ordinances of said
city.
Keo. 4. Be it further ordained that in addition
to the penalties prescribed in the preeegding sec
tion upon the failure or refusal of any .wnarl own
er or owners to put his or their wharf or Wharves in
good order, or on like failure or refusal of the
owner or owners of any improved lot or lots to
construct and keep in repair suitable pavements
in fronts ofsuch lot or lots of the character here
tofore jirov ded for, it shall be the duty of the
marshall to give thirty days notice in writing to
all such diligent wharf or lot owners, requiring
him or them to put in repair their wharf or
wharves or to pave in front of his or their im
proved lot or lots which notice shall be served
personally, but it such service shall be impossible
by reason of non-residence of the person or per
sons to whom the same is directed, then it shall
be his duty to publish said notice for thirty days,
in the newspaper in which the city advertising
is done and after the expiration of said notice it
slia 11 be tbe duty of tbe Chairman of the Board
of County Commissioners, as Mayor of said city,
to require the .Marsh all thereof to enter upon and
put in order or pave and put in repair the proper
ty of such delinquent wharf or lot owner in the
manner heretofore prescribed at his or their ex
pense, and in the name and behalf of the citv au
thorities of Darien, to bring an action at law
against tbe owner or owners of tbe property so
repaired as aforesaid.
Sec. 5. All ordinances, or parts of ordinano
conflicting with this hereby repealed.

I tains of vessels, and steam tow-boats—On and
after the Ist of April and until the Ist of November,
lH.srt, all vessels both foreign and coastwise, ar
riving at this port must be inspected before land
ing freight or passengers or proceeding to their
loading births and pilots will dispose of them as
follows: Vessels having no sickness on board.no
burials on the passage, will be anchored as near
tlie yellow flag opposite tbe quarantine official sta
tion as may be safe and convenient. The Pilot
will notifi.v the officer who will board and inspect
her. Captains of vessels coming in without a pilot
will report to the officer immediatly on his arri
val: tli order applies to all vessels, both foreign
and coastwise, except the following ports, (always
suspected), Havana and all ports and bays of tbe
West Indies and South American ports or bays
and rivers, such vessels must be taken to the up
per quarantine: one mile up Carnochran river
from the inner bouy in safe anchorage near the
southern shoals to be cleansed,fumigated and dis
infected before proceeding. 7be vessel will delay
but a few days. Pilots are cautioned against ves
sels reporting themselves from a neighboring
port where they have only touched, but were last
from an infected port. Any vessel from any port
infected or otherwise,as she might have communi
cated at sea having fever on board, must proceed
at once to the Caspian or lower qurantine under
the lead of the pilot boat, and the pilot will report
the same to tbe quarantine, Doboy station officer,
