AN ORDINANCE.
An Ordinance to provide for the repair of wharf
lots and tho erection of suitable pavements iu
the City of Darien.
Sec. 1. Be it ordained that within —months af
ter notice is given, as heretofore prescribed, it
shall be the duty of all owners of wharves and
wharf lots, in the city of Darien, to place and
keep and wharves and lots at thejexpense of theis
respective owners thereof, in good order, so as to
prevent tue Baid eartli and rubbish from washing
into the river, through or from said respective
wharves aud lots in conformity with instructions
of the City Surueyur of said city, who shall give
his attention whenever notified so to do.
Sec. 2. Be it further ordaiued, that it shall be
the duty of the owners of all improved lots in the
City of Darien, to contract aud keep in repair at
the expence of the owners of each lot respectively
upon Broad street, Jrom Walker’s store, at the
h ad of said street on both sides of said street to
l.pping3’ old office, pavements of brick or smooth
stone of— feet in width, well and substantially
laid, and upon all other streets iu said city it shall
be the duty of each owner of an improved lot to
place down in front thereof in a substantial and
workmanlike manner a pavement, of wood, of the
width feet and each person, the owner of such
lot or lots, shall in putting down the pavemeuts
hereintofore required be bound to conform to the
levels and inclinations marked and prescribed by
the city surveyor, whose duty it shall be to grade
and stake down the place to he paved both on the
line of the lots and the limits hereiutoiore deter
mined on the str et, driving a stake at every 10
feet of the line and the said surveror shall attend
within 5 days tfter he is requested to do so.
Sec. 3. Be it further ordained that the Marshal
of said city shall give writteu notice to the owner
or owners of said wharves and wharf lots and to
the owners of all improved lots in said city of
Darien of the requirements of this ordinance aud
when it is impossible to notify such owners he
done by publication iu the Darien Timber Ga
zetee for thirty days, and any one or more of the
above described persons who shall fail or refuse
to comply with the requirements of said ordi
notice w r ithin mouths shall be liable to a fine
not to exceed dollars to be ei-forced beiore
the police court of the said city of Darien for each
day of such neglect or refusal, aud execution Bhall
issue against the property of such delinquent per
son or persons in the same manner as in other
cases for tho violation of the ordinances of said
city.
Sec. 4. Be it further ordained that in addition
to the penalties prescribed iu the preceeding sec
tion upon the failure or refusal of any wharf own
er or owners to put his or their wharf or wharves ill
good order, or on like failure or refusal of the
owner or owners of any improved lot or lots to
construct aud keep iu repair suitable pavemeuts
in fronts ofsueh lot or lots of tho character here
tofore prov ded for, it shall he the duty of tho
marshall to give thirty days notice in writing to
all such diligent w harf or lot ow ners, requiring
him or them to put in repair their wharf or
wharves or to pave in front of his or their im
proved lot or lots which notice shall be served
personally, hut il such service shall he impossible
by reason of non-residence of the person or per
sons to whom the same is directed, then it Bhall
be bis duty to publish said notice for thirty days,
in the newspaper in which the city advertising
is done and after the expiration of said notice it
sha ll be the duty of the Chairman of the Board
of County Commissioners, as Mayor of said city,
to require the Marshall thereof to enter upon and
put in order or pave and put in repair the proper
ty of such delinquent wharf or lot owner iu the
manner heretofore prescribed at his or their ex
pense. aud in the name and behalf of the citv au
thorities of Darien, to bring an action at law
against the owner or owners of tho property so
repaired as aforesaid.
SEC. f>. All ordinances, or parts of ordiuano
conflicting w-ith this hereby repealed.

CITY OF DARIEN, March 24th 1880.

-1 taius of vessels, and steam tow-boats—On aud
after the Ist of April and until the Ist of November,
1880, all vessels both foreign and coastwise, ar
riving at this port must be inspected before laud
ing troight or passengers or proceeding to their
loading births aud pilots will dispose of them as
follows: Vessels having no sickness on board.no
burials on the passage, will be anchored as near
the yellow flag opposite the quarantine official sta
tion as may be safe and convenient. The Pilot
will notifiy the officer who will board aud Inspect
her. Captains of vessels coming in without a pilot
will report to the officer immediatly on his arri
val; this order applies to all vessels, both foreign
and coastwise, except the following ports, (always
suspected), Havana and all ports and bays of the
West Indies and South American ports or bays
and rivers, such vessels must be taken to the up
per quarantine; one mile up Carnochrau river
from the inner bouy in sale anchorage near the
southern shoals to he cleansed,fumigated and dis

from an infected port. Any vessel from any port
infected or otherwise,as she might have communi

the lead of the pilot boat, and the pilot will report
the same to the quarantine, Doboy station officer.
The Port Physician will regularly enforce our
quarantine rules and will promptly report all viola
ions. No quarantine restrictions will be impossed
