The triumphs of Mechanical Dentistry, and the high state of ex cellency to which it has arrived, contributes to the beauty ami pleasing expression of the coun tenance, give® aid to correct enunciation, nssiMsin performing tho funcions of mastication, arid thereby adds to the health of the whole organism Contributing, as the ttolfi do in these respects, it is not surprising that their loss should he consider ed a serious sfll ction, and that art should be in voked to replace such loss. Attention is invited to the new method of mounting teeth on Vulcan® ite base, a work far preferable to Metalic base.— In the treatment of the teeth, as a part of the or ganism so important to the health of the whole system, I give special attention. Until very recent ly, however, the treatment of the diseasi sos these organ® seems to have been considered less a prop er specially of medicine, titan a mere iiieuhamical cralt, requiring iu the operator lit tie more than manual dexterity and physical force. Surgeons and physicians were generality profoundly igno red of the importance of these organs to the gen eral health, aud were content to leave them iu the care of any who were willing to take charge of tbetn. But ol recent date, well-read medical men have turned their attention to Dentistry, and ap plied their information to the management of the teeth, thus acknowledging it to be a specialty of Medical Science, and is rapidly advancing in pub lic and professional consideration. It is a matter of honest ptide that I offer yon these considerations, and trust that if you should houor me with the oare of these organs, I will try to do my duty in this laudable work. S. G.
