St. Pauls, Minnesota, Aug. 4.
A destructive fire broke out this morning
at 3 o’clock in the store of J. T. Caldwell,
St. Anthony street, and before the flames
could be extinguished the entire Square with
the exception of the first Presbyterian church
was consumed. Seventeen uildings in all
were burnt, involving a loss of f50,000, on
which there is $12,000 insurance.

A building on the corner of Washington
and Civ * 'streets, owned by James Lennon
was totn^ ^'-'stroyed by fire last night. It
was undergone . tpairs, and the fire originated
it is said, by the saielessnesa of the workmen.
The loss js about $30,000.

Information of a favorable nature bos been
received from the friendly Little Crow Indians
who wera sent to taka Inkpahdatohs band of
murderers. They were at the latest dates at
Uob-in-tbe-Wall Mountain, expecting to
find tbs outiaws at Shank Lake, and confident
of tbs success of the expedition.
Get. Madary returned yesterday. The
Sioux Agwcy will dispateh the army and
ammunition now here to the frontier, to be
used in oaae of emergency.

AN ORDINANCE,
For the protection of 8treet Lamps and Lamp
Poets, la the City of Atlanta-
SBorrow lit. Be it ordained by the Mayor
and Council of the City of Atlanta, and it it
hereby ordained by the authority of the lame,
That any white person or persons, who shall
break, injure or deface any of the street lamps
lamp posts, or gas fixtures belonging to the
City, or the Atlanta Gas Light Company, shall
oo conviction before the Mayor or three mem
bers of Council, pay a fine of not exceeding
fifty doilara and coats.
Sec. 2. And be it further ordained, That if
the person so offending be a slave, the fine
shall be paid by hia owner or employor of said
slav3; and if a free person of color, sack fine
shall be paid by the Guardian of such free
person of color.
