AN DNEXPECTKD VISIT -A CASE
OF CRIM. CON.
Tbe affair of the New York Hotel, which
boa been the topic of conversation for the Inst
few days, is thus explained by the Courier lies
Ktats Unit:
On Saturday evening the New York Hotel,
which aa evory one known, is one of the prin
cipal resorts of Southern travellers, was the
theater of an abor'ive drama, in which one of
the principal actors may congratulate himself
in having made a fortunate escape The fol
lowing are the precise details of the unhappy
efiair, as we have obtained 'hem from the best
sources:
Among the trauscient residents of the hotel
was Mrs. W , a young and pretty lady
from Louisiuna.who was enjoying too freely her
husband's absence — lie having remained in
New Orleans on account of business. A gen
tleman of middle ng , suid to lie-rich, nil auc
tioneer by profession, Mr. F , had "over
bid” (encheri) with the greatest success on the
charming Creole, and their intimacy had gone
so far that it was.notieed aud commented upon
by several inmates of the hotel. empl yed for the last i- months' He is pro’- Programmes, Bank Checks,
Among those was a friend of Mr. W . b.ibly now m the neighh >rhiod of Atlanta, or; Blank NoteSj Visiting Cards,
who thought it his duty to advise him of what ' ^Iws apiuehcnlionanf^h addition' ®« eds » Iland-blUs,
Occurred in his absence, and to enjoin liim, ci- al eomnensation will he given as the trouble ol Way BUIS, Posters, CEO.,
tber by telegraph or mail, to conic on us soon
as possible to pat n stop to the scandal. As
soon as he received the message, M r. W —
left New Orleans without advising any one rf
it, and arrived io New York on Saturday ow
ning, with a revolver in it is pocket to tukc the
law into his own hands. It was in such u
dispoaition of mind that lie wcut to the New
York Hotel where his fuitlilces better half was
boarding, and inquired for the number uf ber
room.
He had uo trouble at all to get in. Full
of imprudent security and not suspecting that
the outraged husband, whom they thought so
.far off, was already advancing in the hall—the
two lovers had not even been cautious enough
to lock the door. Mr. W entered as if
he were at home, and although it was very
early in the evening, he found his wil'eand Mr. | been erected in 1886
