Corn* DtKorttr.—We were ibown, oa
Ta«d»y lut, some very rich and beautiful
ipecimeo* of copper; Just discovered about
nineteen miles west of this place,on Hommony
Creek, in Haywood Coaoty. These discover
ies have been thoroughly tested, and yield from
twelve and a half to sixty-fivo per cent, of pure
copper. The vein is said to be the largest ever
discovered iu this ’ibuntry—being four feet
wide and of unknown depth. The fortunate
discoverers are Mess's Q. Bonham and M,
Chapman, the former of Smyth, and the latter
Giles County, Virginia. They have been
working in the neighborhood two years, and
success at leogtE crowns their efforts.—Ashvillt

f&g~ A talking match lately came off at
New Orleans for five dollars aside. It eon-
tinned, according to the Crescent, for thir
teen hours, the rivals being a Frenchman
and a Kentuukian. The bystanders and
judges wero talked to sleep, and when they
woke in the morning they found the French
man dead, and - the Kentuckian whispering
in his ear.

havo been confirmed by tho General Land

J0T* The distance across the ocean along
the line which the expedition for laying the
submarine cable will follow, from Valencia,
Ireland, to near St. John*, New Foundland
is about 1,640 railee—say 1,700 milte, by
allowing for a few deviations from the straight
course.
Jj^ ‘Wasn’t that a waste of powderl’
said an Irishman to a Kentuckian who had
just brought a coon to tho ground.
‘Why so, Pat 1 ’ asked the hunter.
‘Sure the fall would a kilt him.’

YOUNG AMERICA
Target Pistol
MAKTFMGTUaiHG GO.,
NEW HAVEN. t’T.
rpHlB PISTOL is intended
ss the forerunner of the
ordinary pistol, and is design
ed fur young men and boys
who wish to epjoy the exciting sport of firing

without any danger of accident. The cheapest
ordinary pistol is three or four times the piice
of this, besides being dangerous in the hands of
boys. This pistol is loaded with the common
Fire Cracker, which forms a complete cartridge,
and will cany a ball ten or fifteen paces with
the same precision as the ordinary pistol, but
not with sufficient lorce to Jo any serious data-
age. As America is a shooting nation, the
Young Americans must and will lesrn the art
by which nut independence was secured. Hence
this Target Pistol is exactly in time, and must
meet with universal sale among our youth of
the South and West. Its operation is perfectly
simple, and it is not liable to get out of order.—
