WAR AMONG THE AMAZONS. A Barc-Field Re-Joyce’s. Female Charms verrt Female Arms. Pjwelomi Baeefield) PEACE WARRANT, ▼s. > Before Hon. B. Johnson, Many Joyce. ) J.P.,789 dist. G. M. . Notwithstanding the truth that “it is good for men—and women—to dwell to gether iu peace and unity,” il not unfre- quently happens that harmony is des troyed by an aversion which some people have for settling disputes suaviter in and a decided preference for proceed ing fortiler in re. It would seem that little eccentricities of this kind ought to bo confined to the rougher sex, but sometimes the fair ones will assert their right to participate belligerent exercises, and when this is the case, they demonstrate that glances of the eye are not the only weapons which woman can use with si riling effect The calm peacefulness of last Sunday was disturbed by a little miss-under standing (but not mediating) between the plaintiff and defendant in the above stated case. These gentle maidens have not been friendly terms for sometime past. The little Miss is Mollie Joyce, daughter of defendant, of whom Mrs. 15. facetiously remarked, in passing by her mother’s house, that she was a “Shanghai.” She also applied such epithets as “muffled head," and indulged in such remarks not very complimentary to Mrs. ,J. As to the exact words of the discussion, the witnesses differ, but tbe result was that Mrs. Joyce playfully gave Mrs. Barefield a blow with a stick, which brought her to position somowhat less dignified than “the ancient clcuic Caryatides attitude,” in which Mrs. J. pleasantly pelted her with bricks. While thus engaged, she was reminded by Mr. Goodman, who was passing, that her conduct was somewhat irregular, to which she replied by projecting a missile ’ t vo at him, which he avoided and went 1 his way. During the triad, which took place last Tuesday, Mrs. Joyce was anxious at ral times to bo heard, but the court, by M of its efficient constable, John A. McElroy, succeeded in preserving order, ac is elegant in quieting excited ladies. The remarks of A. R. Brown, Esq., for defendant were pointed and witty, and Dupont Guerry, Esq., who concluded the argument for plaintiff, did himself great credit iu a pointed and elegant speech. The court required Mrs. Joyce to give a bond in the sum of $100, conditioned to keep the peace toward all the good people of tliis State, but especially to ward Mrs. Barefield; upon which the de fendant announced that she would see the “wliolo chcbang sunk” liefore Rite would do it. We left it this stage of the proceedings, but have been informed that when she refused to give bond the court ordered her to jail, and that upon Constable Bos- wortli attempting to execute this order, she forced her dentals into liis manuals so sharply lie was compelled to call ii help, and that the whole corps of officers of the city found it difficult to manage this rampant female. We understand she was at length pre vailed ujion to comply with the terms prescribed by the conrt, and departed peace. (?) MSS** The proposed Railroad from New- in to Americas is gaining many friends . the counties through which it is to pass, and no fears are entertained by any of them that il it is undertaken in tbe right spirit, the road will not be built Let our people evince enough interest in the en terprise and assist with their councils and money, and the time will soon be when our communications, with the grain grow ing sections will be shortened and the result bo apparent in the steady increase of wealth among our people.
