Go., on the 1st in sfit The introductory sermon was preached by Elder G. T. Wilburn, and was replett with gospel truth. Elder Geo. F. Cooper was elected Moderator and J. H. Cawood Clerk. • The several pulpita wero filled on Sab bath morning by Elders B. P. Tharp, rhomos Muse, M. B. L. Binion and W. F. Duncan. In the afternoon by Elders J. H. Corley and H. C. Homaday. At night Elders T. E. Langley and J. B. Dearborn preached to large and atten tive audiences. The churches were gen erally represented, the attendance large, and the letters showed them, in the main, to be in a prosperous condition. Tho Friendship Association is engaged in the support of Elder H. F. Buck ner, as a Missionary to the Indians, whose reports from the fields of his ope rations were of a decidedly encouraging character. Elder Buckner is a veteran missionary work, having devoted most ol his ministerial life to preaching amongst tho red men of the West. The meeting of the Association was characterized by the singleness of pur pose which seems to possess the minds of the members: to extend the Redeemer*! Kingdom and to ameliorate the condition of the world. The claims of Mercer Uni versity were represented by Elder B. R Tharp, who anoceeded il i rating Well*, hundred dollars towards increasing its endowment. Elder H. C. Homaday urged the claims of the Christian Index and the South Western Baptist, with gratifying success. Elder J. S. Baker advocated the claims of the American Bible Union, but as he did not attempt any collection, the effect of his address could not l>e ascertained. B£*k- Dr. B ddwin, who died of Cholera in Nashville, 18G6, wrote, some years be fore the late war between the States, what was called Armageddon ; it being a proph ecy based upon certain passages iu the Revelation of St. John. In that he prophesied that in the year 1870 a war would commence in the west of Europe, and spreading eastward, involve the whole civilized world; that the final battle would be fought upon the East bank of the Mississippi; that blood would fle the bits of the horses’ bridles, and the carnage would be stupendous.
