A tlisconsolalc editor thus
moans his departed spouse :
" Thus my wife died. No more
will those loving hands puli oil'
my hoots and part my back hair
as only a true wife can. Nor
will those willing feet replenish

will she arise amid the tempestu

away to the tire, without disturb
ing the slumbers .of the man who
do.ed on her so artlessly. Her
memory is embalmed in my heart
of hearts. I wanted to embalm
her body, but I found that-Ijeonld

Upon the growth of plants the
moon exorcises / remarkable influ
ence. The chemical action of gift
is ncssary to their principal work,
the absorption of carbon from the
carbonic acid gas of the atmos
phere.. This work all plants carry
on during the day , and in the night
they sleep—except whpn the tifpqn
shines, She wakes them and sets
tjiem at work. So the farmers
who plant only just before the lull
moon ^u;e right, and the 'scoffers
wild Call them superstitious are
themselves the foolish ones. For,
if sown before or near new moon,
the young plants get aboveground
just at.the full, when the tender
things need sleep. But if sown

Nothing is more natural than
to suppose that the dark spots on
the moon are forests, but how
shall we account for the growth
of these trees in right lines? This
hypothesis we must for the pres-
euent consider to be only a hypo
thesis. With the aid of photo
graphy, which will secure for us
accurate pictures of the moon
from time to time, we may hope
that the question will be solved,
and that we may really find ont
what is going on upon the surface
of our satellite. >

She brought it over to our
house, Mrs. Bascomb did. It was
their first—fa wee little red-faced,
red-lieaded, pug-nosed, howling

' Do see his darling, darling lit

unwound him about forty times,
and looked to see which end his
feet were ou.
I looked. I have been the fa

wopsies, and I didn’t see anything
remarkable about Bascomb’s biiby.
