r. H- H. Carlton,
Dear Sir:—Thinking your locals
ere perhaps! a little scarce, I will
ive you a faint description of E. T.'
Jutland's and my travels from Atlanta
this point, selling Ijuts and shoes,
iYe left Atlanta May 31st. The first
hico we eamo to of importance, is
Koswell Factory, which is’ now stup
ed, owing to tbe failure of the parties
uniting it, hut is loasod to other par*
ics, and will start in - a few days,
h-v don't intend paying their hands
cash, hut hava issued scrip, payable
only in goods at their store, which the
eople about there think is very unjust.
’he town of Uoswell is composed of
fomc four stores and dwellings, pin 1
other buildings to correspond, nearly
all new. Found thepeople very ch vev.
The next place we come to i# Cunt*
ming, a very nice village, hut it was
rale d.«y, which somewhat impelled the
Shoe and Hat trade, but nil knowing
E. said hold on awhile, which we
cheerfully did. We found all very
genial ami clever, but some, of them
were muchly disappointed at Hon. fi.
H. Hills'election. We consoled them
.be best we could, telling them vtc
thought it was for the best; and packed
up our samples and moved on in tlje
direction of Dawsonville, but before
reaching the latter place, wo were.very
much surprised pa entering such a
beautiful l irge valley nil the Hightower
river. The valley, as I shall term it,
is very little, if any, interior to the
great Nacoochee, which is so widely
known from tho mountains to the yea*
board. , • r-’
Saw very little of note in Daw*
simville; everything is quiet, a* the
pnnd citizens of that place have availed
themselves of the local option act. I
however, noticed tine thing which is
somewhat rare. An old gentleman,
near eighty years ot ag», walked into
town, seven miles, while we Were tlnerfe.
and rested but a few moments and
walked back home. His habits have
always been temperate,.and; hi# drink

for twelve thousand dollars. Out of
one of the mines, before selling, he'
found one solid piece 'of jjold weighing
480 pennyweights, worth now, some
$•>00 in greenbacks. . . . .-
From Cleveland we made wnr way
toward# Bluirsville, through the Tes*

along the road magnificent. We are
to-day, ■ stopping -with!' Mr;:. Willis

The great interest of the occasion
