Saturday last was: a lively day for trade in Blakely. Every merchant in town had all lie could do, with what outside aid jse could command. Sam Powell’s store was crowded last Saturday, and he sold many goods, but he has plenty more to sell you at the lowest rate they can bo bought anywhere. Parties having claims against Joel W. Hightower, deceased, will confer a favor upon the Exeatutor by presenting them within the next two weeks, as he wishes to wind up the business ol the Estate by that time. The Misses Clyde and Minnie Stafford, of Home, Ga., arc spending the Christ mas holidays with relatives and friends in Blakely. They reached hero on Saturday night, and already some of our young men begin to show signs of lieart disease. IE B. Palmer, 2!) Upon examination of the Public Build ings. we find alt to he in-good condPi hi, with tiie exception of repairs needed on the base of the columns of the Court Ilonse. Tiie jail \\e find well kept. From the reports of the committee from various portions of the. county, we find that the roads are in good condition, with one ex ception. There are shout thirty paupers in the county. and receive 01; ajn.ropnation of about seven hundred and tif.y dollars pet* annum. Alter considering the matter of a PaAipor Farm, recommended by former Grand Ju ries, and being satisfied of the success of the system in adjoining counties, and tire ex pensiveness of the system practiced by us, wc do earnestly urge upon the County Com missioners the propriety* of establishing a Pauper Farm in our county as early as pos sible, and think by applying to the same business methods it will lr! suit sustaining.
