Centerville Happenings.
Editor Early County News :
“As the calyxes of gold
Rest within the lily’s fold;
Sweetly I may rest in thee,
And o’er death cry victory;
Boasting grave, I read thy doom.
See the Easter Lilies bloom.”
Ask Mr. Astor Scarborough how
he likes to eat Cake?
A very good attendance at Sab
bath school Sunday.
Mr. J. W. Scarborough was in
the burg Sunday last.
Mr. William Platt passed through
the burg Friday last.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Wiley visit
ed in Miller since our last.
Mrs. W. M. Strickland visited
Mrs. W. L. Dußose recently.
Cotton planting is the order of
the day now with our farmers.
Miss Mattie Anderson visited
the writer Saturday afternoon.
Sunday was Easter Sunday, and
oh, what nice flowers we did have.
Mr. H. B. Anderson visited out
atSowhatchee Saturday night and
Sunday.
Rev. J. W. Connors was in the
burg recently, the guest of Mr. J.
W. Wiley.
Wonder who all got an April
fool? I got one, and it surely was
a good one.
Mr. W. L. Dußose and Mr. W.
A Strickland went up the city one
day last week.
Ask Mr. W. A. Strickland if he
he ever wants to walk the foot logs
any more soon ?
Sunday was one of those rainy
days again, and a certain fellow
looked very sad.
Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Smith, from
Union, visited relatives here Satur
day and Sunday.
Miss Jeflie Mosley, of Cedar
Springs, was among the many vis
itors here Sunday.
One of our farmers says he has
roasting-ears, but they are a long
ways out of sight yet.
Wonder how Mr. H. B. Malonia
likes his long sweet rides every
morning and evening.
We are very sorry to note the se
rious illness of Mrs. Cowart. Wish
for her a speedy recovery.
Yes, Brunette, the cool spell we
had went hard with Easter Lily,
but she has come to life again.
Easter Lily had a pretty bouquet
of flowers sent her Saturday from
Miller, which was certainly appre
ciated.
Sunday school at Centerville
every Sunday morning at ten
o’clock. , Everybody invited to
attend.
Mr. W. A. Strickland spent Sat
urday night and Sunday as the
guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
W. M. Strickland.
Well, May Flower, how did you
like the song of the Elmo bird?
Don’t we wish we had such noted
birds in our town.
A certain young lady was al!
cheered up Sunday, looking for
her best sweet-heart, but he didn’t
come, and oh, my, how sad she
looked next day.
Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Smith, of
Union, Mr. W. A. Strickland, Mr.
J. O. Strickland and Miss Ida
Strickland, were the guests of the
writer’s home Saturday evening.
It was indeed a pleasure to the
writer to visit the home of Mr_
Quincy Scarborough Sunday before
last and attend preaching at Pine
view. Rew Pool preached one of
the most delightful sermons I ever
heard, which was enjoyed by all
present.
Miss Florrie Mosley, the school
teacher here, is meeting with well
deserved praise on the manner in
which she is conducting her school.
By her praiseworthy tact, coupled
with her kindness and the modern
methods employed, Miss Mosley
has won the confidence of both pu
pils and parents.
The school children took advant
age of their teacher the xst day of
April, the writer going with them.
We all went the Columbia road as
far as the tram road; there we met
the Pineview school; then we all
went to Lucile and marched
through town, going in the stores.
Many thanks to Messrs. Marion
White, Bachelor and Dußose for
their treats to us. It certainly was
appreciated by the Pineview and
Centerville schools. We took din
ner there under the cool shade;
then at noon we went to the school
house, where there were about
sixty-five of us all. Prof. McCui
lers had some of his pupils and
some of us to march. Many
thanks to him for his kindness to
us while there. We left there
about two o’clock. Some of his
pupils ran away and went with us.
Now, ask the Lucile boys how
they like to run across plowed
ground. We all came back up the
tram road as for as Mr. Lumley’s,
gathered flowers and had a jolly old
time. I wonder if the Lucile mer
chants ever wish to see the school
children come any more. Lucile
is a lively little place, many im
provements having been made
there. Easter Lily.
A Demonstration of What Cham
berlain’s Colic, Cholera and Diar
rhoea Remedy Can Do.
"One ot our customers, a highly
re-pected citizen of this place, had
been for ten years a sufferer from
chronic diarrhoea,” writes Walden
& Martin, druggists, of Enterprise,
Ala. "He had used various patent
preparations and been treated by
physicians without any permanent
benefit. A few months ago he
commenced taking Chamberlain’s
Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Rem
edy and in a short time was entire
ly cured. Many citizens of Enter
prise who know the gentleman will
testify to the truthfulness of this
statement.” For sale by L. C.
Strong, druggist.
Not Such an Unusual Feat.
Dr. De Sarak a few weeks ago
lectured in Washington on “Occult
Science.” After his address he
gave a demonstration of his power
when, by concentrating his mind
on it, he smashed into smithereens
a bottle full of water. The inci
dent caused comment and was dis
cussed by several senators gathered
in the cloak room of the cap’tol.
“Imagine breaking a bottle by
llrnking of it:,” said oue of the
statesmen : n amazement.
“Thais nont'ng,” said Senator
Spooner blandly, “i’ve known
men to th’ok of a bottle and break
a dollar.”—Detroit Free Ihess.
