Blue stem oollards b’ilin’,
Co’n bread bakin’ brown,
Dewberries done and sp’ilin*
< Oh. pass them dumplin’s 'round.)
Fine times in sagerdom and still
a-coming.
Sagers having caught up are re
verting to practices peculiar their
own, i. e., going to town Saturday
afternoons.
The wintry winds are still whist
ling in fact and many a one hav
ing discarded chilly robes are in
the grumps.
Mr. Robert Freeman, and Miss
Beulah Porter, and Messrs Jo*,
and R. F. Freeman, were in Bluse
ly Saturday.
Thanks to Blonde and Brunette
for the kind words, but we can’t
bring ourselves to believe that they 1
•re deserved.
Big Jimmie Pate, Jr., of Hilton,
with his younger brother and sister
came up Sunday and gave back a
promised visit
Southerner, thanks for the kini
invitation, but, however much I’d
like to go to the picnic, things are
so it cannot be arranged.
Miss Josie May Jones, our effi
cient and popular school teacher,
bade us good bye at the end of
Fridays exercises, she having ar
range* for her *ister, Miss Fay, to
teach the balance of the session.
This will end next Friday.
The Freeman base ball club has
•not as yet organized for the sum
mer, but the interest evinced in
other parts of the county in the
national game has given impetus to
our preparations for a team. Colo
tnokee having told us things of their
doings in the pig skin realm, we
will be glad to soon give them a
chance to preserve their laurels on
the diamond.
With regard to abolishing the
present system of road working, as
Southerner says, it will be a step
backward, but we, in this section,
feel that expediency demands
relief in some manner. So our
laments are added to the category
of complaints that are heard against
the way the highways are kept up,
that is, for our part, in this vicin
ity. While we would not like to
know that our county, in the re
spect to modern innovations, was
lagging, we cannot see our way
clear to a sacrifice of good roads in
the county to these whims of pride
without a howl. Doubtless por- I
tions of the roads are in better con
dition than they were nnder the
old system, but this does not re- I
fleet similar conditions over the j
county as a unit. Incidentally wt
will again remind the road com
missioners that Freeman branch
foot-way is in a state of collapse.
When some unwary pedestrian gets
a limb broken perhaps we will be j
given some attention.
