of feet of 4-inch main.
How many feet of pipe
at 10 cents per foot can be laid for
$266.66 ? Ans. 2,666 feet; that is
to say, one consumer at SI.OO per
month will pay the interest on the
cost of laying over one-half mile of
pipe.
County Commissioners.
The board of the county com
missioners held their regular
monthly meeting Tuesday and
transacted some important busi
ness.
Upon report of committee that
the right right of way had been se
cured to a road leading from Grims
ley mill road to the Fort Gaines
road, the superintendent was in
structed to open same at once.
L. D. Gay, W. D. Hodges and
J. C. Chancy were appointed com
mittee to look after repairs for jail
and court house.
L. D. Gay and J. C. Chancy
were appointed to look after peo
ple needing charity and burial of
dead whose people are not able to
bury them.
J. C. Chancy was authorized to
issue summons for road defaulters
in the name of the board.
W. M. Pullen and Willie Wiley
were appointed to secure and mark
out the right of way fora road from
Kestler east to the Baker county
line, and make report at the next
meeting of the hoard.
A committe, consisting of L. D.
Gay, O. E. Hall and J. C. Chancy,
was appointed to consult with J
11. Flowers in regard to securing
the labor of convicts on the public
roads.
The National Conference of
Charities convened yesterday in
Atlanta.

Killed by a Train.
Major J* W. Warren, who has
since 1872 been secretary to the ex
ecutive department of the Geor
gia state government was instant
ly killed Monday by a Georgia rail
road passenger train at Kirkwood,
three miles from Atlanta, where
he lived. Major Warren had just
alighted from a trolley when he wa6
struck. He was the oldest officer
of the state government, in point
of service.
When, after the war, the Demo
crats overthrew the radical rule in
Georgia, and James M. Smith was
elected governor, he made Major
Warren one of his secretaries. The
date of his appointment was Jan
uary 12, 1872. Since that hour,
through all the following adminis
trations and endless changes in
office, Major Warren has held his
place in the executive office
