“HONORS TO OUR JOE.”
Mr. J. W. Vinson has received a
telegram from the Atlanta headquar
ters of the Southern Stales Life In
surance Co. notifying him that he had
led all other agencies in amount of
new business for March, and request
ing his latest photograph. The Vin
son agency is one of the strongest in
the State, and our Joe i 3 vigilant in
protecting his patrons at all times. —
Early County News.
We reprint the above because —>
first, we delight to assist in extending
the credit of a worthy institution, and
second, that we always try to ad
vance the interests of our patrons.
But that "our Joe” of Brother Flem
ing’s kinder rises our risibilities. To
Fort Gaines only belongs tile right to
say “our Joe.” It is true that Blake
ly has a sort of adoption by consent
claim, and we fully appreciate our
sister city’s interest in him, but Fort
Gaines, individually and collectively,
positively and delightedly, (reserves
the right to call him “our Joe.”—Fort
Gaines Sentinel.
Nay, nay. Brother Bateman, he’s l
really and truly "our Joe”. Never -
since he first came to Blakely and I
became enamored of the bright eyes I
of one of Blakely’s fairest maidens
and became enmeshed in the toils of
matrimony has Fort Gaines had more
than a quasi claim on “our Joe”. He
is now a full-hearted Blakelyite, be
cause he has found in our little city
the garden spot of God’s country.
COME OUT MONDAY.
Memorial Day, April 2(!th, will be
observed on Monday afternoon at
3 o’clock in the Court House, and
the unveiling of the Monument will
take place immediately after the ex
ercises, which will be held in the
court room.
The Daughters of the Confederacy
cordially invite the people of Blake
ly and Early county, or elsewhere, to
attend these exercises. The ladies
have arranged an excellent and ap
propriate program, which appears in
another column. Our people are for
tunate in having another opportunity
of hearing Judge A. G. Powell. Aside
from the fact that he is a most elo
quent speaker and distinguished
Georgian, he is an old Blakely boy.
and son of a brave Confederate sol
dier, and eminently fitted in every
way to address us at the unveiling of
the Monument.
The Daughters of the Confederacy
request that all places of business,
where consistent, clo3e their doors
Monday afternoon from 3 to 5 o’clock,
Memorial Day, and attend the patriot
ic and sacred exercises held in the
Court house. The ladies wish us to
state that the soldiers- graves will
be marked with flags all day Monday
and that any flowers placed upon
them, no matter how few, either be
fore the exercises or after, will be
greatly appreciated.
The State prison commission has
Issued a new rule which absolutely
forbids conversation by an outsider
with a prisoner, unless the former
has an order from the court before
whom the convict was sentenced, or
from the warden in charge of the
camp. It has been customary to allow
friends and relatives of the convicts
to converse with them occasionally.
This will not be the case In the fu
ture, however, and visitors will not
be accorded these privileges unless
they present an order to tbF guard.
The order will be required of lawyers
as well as others.
The Albany Herald makes miration
over a fellow who wrote a letter to
the Baltimore American and signed
himself a “Bryan Republican.” Ia
a “Bryan Republican” any more fear
fully and wonderfully constructed
than a “McKinley Democrat,” or a
“Taft Democrat” like Secretary Dick
inson?
The Georgia Chautauqua is in full
blast in Albany this week in its 21st
annual session, and those who are
availing themselves of the chance to
attend its sessions are enjoying a
rare feast of good things.
