CAMILLA, Ga.—A. Bruce McCas
kill was instantly killed Monday af

Georgia-Alabama Power Company hy

WILL START COUNTY
WIDE ORGANIZATIONS
ALBANY, Ga. —With the sign-up
campaign of the Georgia Peanut
Growers Co-operative Association
about completed, and 100,000 acres
under contract in sight, organiza
tion of county-wide organizations and
locals for the Association in each
county will be started in a few days.
J. B. Lawley, who did similar work
for the Peanut and Cotton Associa
tions in North Carolina, and who is
connected with the Department of
Field Service and Publicity of the
Georgia Peanut Association, will have
charge of setting up these county
organizations and locals.
Mr. Lawley will first visit Decat
ur county, which has the largest
number of contract signers, and af
ter that will go to Grady, Seminole
and Early counties, which rank next
in order as to members.
His plans call for a county-wide
mass meeting of contract signers in
each county. The first of these
will be held at Bainbridge in Decat
ur county at a date to be agreed
on by Mr. Lawley and local mem
bers in Decatur county. At these
county-wide meetings, a new and
permanent county chairman will be
elected for each county to serve for
the next year.
The counties will then be sub
divided into locals, no local to con
tain fewer than ten members or
more than fifty. Each local will
have a chairman, a vice-chairman and
a secretary, all elected by the mem
bers. A working committee will be
named by the chairman. At 8 later
date, a uniform date for expiration
of terms of offices of officers of lo
cals will be set, so that all of them
can be elected on the same date
next year.
Locals will be formed according
to militia districts, school-house dis
tricts, or such other subdivisions of
a county as may prove best in each
instance. Locals will meet at least
once a month, and oftener, at the
pleasure of the members. Local meet
ings have proved so popular in other
co-operative marketing organizations

that the members have held weekly
meetings throughout the year. '
The object of this form of organi
zation is to bring together growers
with the same - local interest, who
know each other, who know the
territory in detail, and in small num
bers, so that all can take part in
the conduct of the affairs of the lo
cal. This has its value in gathering
information for the Association and
in doing good community work on
roads, schools, sanitation and other
matters of general interest.
Meetings of locals will be open
to the public and non-members will
be encouraged to attend, but execu
tive sessions will of course be held
to discuss confidential business mat
ters of the Association. News letters
from the Association will be read at
local meetings, production problems
and other matters will be discussed.
The locals, in fact, will be the means
of contact between the members and
their Association.
It is anticipated that the meeting
at Bainbridge and those elsewhere
will be largely attended by members.
RESULTS ANNOUNCED IN
TRUSTEE AND TAX ELECTION
By oversight last week the News
failed to chronicle the result of the
school tax and trustee election in
the newly consolidated Rock Hill-
Sowhatchee school district. The elec
tions were held on Saturday, June
30th, and resulted in the choice of
Messrs. Eugene M'artin, Wood A.
Smith and James M. Lane as trus
tees and an almost unanimous vote |
in favor of the school tax.
The next step will be taken by j
this board of trustees by calling an |
election for bonds in the near future I
by which to obtain funds with which I
to erect a modern brick school j
building.
The trustees, in company with |
County Superintendent Melton, went j
down into Decatur county Monday to
look over some new brick school
buildings recently erected in that
county in consolidated school dis
tricts, with a view of getting a line
on the probable cost of a similar
structure n the district which they
represent. The party was quite
favorably impressed with the build
ings they inspected.
