BLAKELY AND ARLINGTON SPLIT ■
FOUR GAME SERIES.
Blakely and Arlington divided a j
four game series last week, Blakely
winning a double-header on the home
ground Thursday afternoon and Ar
lington winning Friday and Saturday.
Blood worth was on the mound for
Arlington in the first game of the
double-header Thursday afternoon and
started off in a great style. It look
ed as if the Calhoun county gang
•would win, but during the latter
stages of the game the home hopes
got onto the elongated twirler and
pounded him for nine runs, which was
;i more than the visitors were able
to secure off the deliveries of Coch
ran, Henderson and Williamson, the
Blakely club using three pitchers be
fore checking the Arlington hitters.
The second game, which was seven
innings by agreement, was a pitch
ers battle between Williamson for
Blakely and Stone for Arlington,
‘Buddie’ having the edge on ‘Tige.’
Blakely winning 1 to 0. Williamson
carved for himself a niche in the
hall of fame by holding the Arling
ton sluggers hitless, only five men
reaching first base, and these on
bases on balls. Stone gave up only
five hits.
Over in Arlington Friday after
noon the tables were turned, and
Wallie Norris handed Blakely nine
‘goose eggs,’ while Turk was being
touched pretty freely, five runs be
ing scored off his delivery before
he was replaced by Henderson, who
held Arlington to one hit and no
runs the three innings he pitched.
Arlington again won on Saturday,
the score being 2 to 1. Cochran for j
Blakely gave up 5 hits, but an error
or two followed by a wild pitch gave
the visitors the deciding run. Wilder
for Arlington managed to keep the
eight hits he surrendered well scat
tered . i
