On Monday night a representative

After a general discussion of the
problems confronting the farmers
of our county it was unanimously
decided by those present that a
general diversification of our crops
for next year was absolutely neces
sary for the salvation of our county.
It was the opinion of a good many
present that perhaps the tobacco in
dustry would be a great addition:
others discussed the vegetable and
poultry industry, while others seemed
to think in addition that a creamery
would be a great asset to our town.
After a general discussion of these
matter an organization was perfect
ed and will be known as the Early
County Club. M'r. B. R- Collins was
elected Chairman and Mr. J. B.
Tarver Secretary.
A committee was appointed to vis
it Camilla, Tifton, Ashburn and other
points to investigate thoroughly the
tobacco, poultry, creamery and other
industries that have been a success
in these various localities and report
back to this Club as early as prac
ticable.
A committee was also appointed to
draw resolutions and by-laws and as
sessment fees of this organization
and report back next Monday night,
September 3rd.

is to better the agricultural condi
tions of our county and to put each
farmer in Early county on a self
sustaining and money-making basis.
We want every man in Early county
to join this organization and in
due time a membership card will be
presented to you.
In unity there is strength, so let’s
all get together, pull together, work
together and make Early county the
banner county of South Georgia. The
records show that we have as fertile
land in Early county as in any county
in the State of Georgia. The record
further shows that there is a mar
ket for any commodity we may pro
duce. With these facts staring us
in the face, how can we be content
ed to continue to feed the BOLL
WEEVIL?
Let’s get together, folks, and start
something. NOW is' the opportune
time; the longer we put the matter
off, the poorer we get. An invita
tion is extended to all to join the
Early County Club.
At this meeting one of our pro
gressive colored farmers was present,
‘‘Uncle” J. H. Ross, and he was
unanimously elected honorary mem
ber of this body.
From time to time you will hear
more about the Early County Club.

NOTED BAPTIST MINISTER
HAS PASSED AWAY
-
;
Many Blakely people were pained
to read in last Saturday’s daily pa
pers announcement of the death of
Dr. W. M. Anderson, beloved Bap-'
tist minister, which occurred at j
Waynesboro, Ga., on the 24th inst.
During the pastorate of Rev. J. A.
J. Dumas, Dr. Anderson conducted
two revival meetings in the Baptist
church at Blakely and greatly en
deared himself to our people. The
prayers and sympathy of our people
go out to his bereaved wife and
children. Truly a tower in Israel
has fallen. j
