Mr. Allen Craft is seriously ill at
this writing.
The farmers down this way have
been awfully gloomy the last few
weeks on account of so much rain,
but the sun is shining today and they
are all "grins.”
Mr. John Arnette and family, of
near Colquitt, spent Sunday with
Mr. C. C. Willis.
Mr. Bennie Oliver, of Bainbridge,
was with home folks Monday.
Mrs. Gordon and son, Henry, and
Mrs. Trawick, of New Hope, were
at the home of Mr. C. C. Willis
Sunday.
Mr. Cecil Waller, of Arlington,
accompanied Miss Bonnie Lewis to
prayer meeting.
Misses Ina Waller and Mary Floyd
spent last week with their aunt,
M*rs. J. B. Widner.
The surprise party given to Miss
Allie Sue Hunt was enjoyed by a
large crowd.
Mr. Lunsford, of Milford, spent
Sunday with Mr. R. O. Timmons.
Messrs. Horace Martin and J. B.
Tolbert, of Fort Gaines, were In this
vicinity Sunday night.
Mrs. Hudgins and daughter, Bessie
Lou, spent Sunday with Mrs. J. B.
Widner.

On the first Tuesday iu September,
1923, within the legal hours of sale,
will be sold to the highest and, best
bidder for cash, at public outcry, the
following described property, towit:
That certain tract of land lying
and being in the town of Jakin,
said county, commencing at the back
end of C. C. King’s store on court
house lot line, running east 54 feev
to Flowers Lumber Co. line; thence
south 27 feet to J. A. Bivings line;
thence west 54 feet to barber shop;
thence north 27 feet to starting
point, being the land conveyed by
C. L. Chandler to W. T. Whitting
ton. Said land levied on and to be
sold as the property of W. T. Whit
tington to satisfy a mortgage fl. fa.
in favor of W. H. Alexander, trans
feree, vs. said W. T. Whittington.

TAX LEVY FOR 1923.
GEORGIA —Early County:
It is hereby ordered that sixteen
mills on the dollar of the taxable
property of said county, as per di
gest of 1923, be, and the same is,
hereby levied, the same to be col
lected by the Tax Collector for the
following purposes, towit:
(1) 2.50 mills on the dollar to pay
the legal indebtedness due or to be
come due during the year 1923, or
past due.
(2) 1.00 mill on the dollar to pay
the bonded indebtedness of the coun
ty, together with the interest there
on.
(3) 5.00 mills on the dollar to
pay for the public buildings, bridges,
and repairs thereto and other public
improvements.
(4) 1.00 mill on the dollar to pay
the expenses included in supporting
the poor of the county.
(5) 1 mill on the dollar to pay
the sheriff, jailors, or other officers’
fees to which they may bp legally
entitled.
(C) 1-10 of a mill on the dollar to
pay the coroner’s fees that may be
due him by the county for holding
inquests.
(7) 3-10 of a mill on the dollar to
pay the bailiffs at court, non-resident
witnesses in criminal cases, fuel,
servants’ hire, stationery and the
like.
, (8) .75 of a mill on the dollar to
jurors their per diem compensation.
(9) .35 of a mill on the dollar to
defray the expenses incurred by the
county for sanitation.
(10) 4.00 mills on the dollar to
meet the expenses of the county in
maintaining, repairing and opening
up the public roads.
In addition to the above and fore
going tax, there is also levied, on
all of the taxable property which is
outside of the Cities of Blakely and
Arlington, in said county, the sum of
five mills on the dollar, for the pur
pose of maintaining the schools of
the county.
There is also levied on all of the
property in each of the following
school districts of the county, to
supplement the public school funds
to the schools of said district, the
number of mills on the dollar oppo
site the name of the said school,
as is hereinafter specified:

GEORGIA—EarIy County:
Resolved by the Commissioners of
Roads and Revenues of Early coun
ty, Georgia, upon the request of the
Trustees of the Rowena Consolidated
School District, and to retire twenty
thousand dollars ($20,000.00) of five
per cent, bonds to build and equip
a Schoolhouse for said District, a
tax is hereby levied on all of the
taxable property of said District for
said purpose as follows
4 mills on the dollar for the years
1923 and 1924; 4 1-2 mills on the
dollar for the year 1925; 4 mills on
the dollar for the years 1926 to 1930
both inclusive; 3 1-2 mills on the
dollar for the years 1931 to 1935,
both inclusive; 3 mills on the dollar
for the years 1936 to 1942, both In
clusive; 4 mills on the dollar for the
years 1943 to 1947, both inclusive;
and 3 1-2 mills on the dollar for the
years 1948 to 1952, both inclusive.
Resolved further, that the Tax Col
lector of said county be, and he is,
hereby authorized to collect the num
ber of mills on the dollar of the
1 taxable property of said District, as
above set forth, for the years herein
• named, turning the same over to the
Secretary and Treasurer of said
’ School District.
Resolved further, That the forego
' ing levy is a correction of the levy
I heretofore passed on May Bth, 1823,
said original levy lacking about
eight hundred dollars ($800.00) suf
ficient funds to pay off said bonds;
that the original levy w r as intended
to retire said bonds and this levy is
, in explanation of the original and
, to add the amount necessary to re
: tire said indebtedness and in no
s event are both of said levies to he
collected, but only enough to retire
; said bonds. *
