Mr. 11. A. Durden, h painter, who j

negro woman from the western
portion of the county to Bancroft,
east of Blakely. When near the
home of Mr. T B. Kenney he crash
ed into a two-horse wagon, receiving
internal injuries from w’hieh he died
Sunday afternoon at his home in
Blakely.
The deceased was about 40 year*
old and in survived by his wife

DELIVERYSEASON
ON FOR PEANUTS
Delivery season for members of
the Georgia Peanut Growers Co-oper
ative Association began Thursday,
and reports received by headquarters
office of the new co-operative mar
keting organization indicated that
there were heavy deliveries all over
the state.
A surprise was in store for the
growers who made deliveries in that
they received a larger initial advance
than they had been promised. At a
meeting of the directors of the pea
nut association in July, before the
peanut market opened and when
there were practically no quotations
available, it advanced its members an
initial payment of SOO a ton.
Some of the directors urged a
higher figure at the time, but Pres
ident R. E. L. Spence and a ma
jority of the other directors held
that conservatism was the best policy
and the smaller figure was agreed
upon. Wednesday night, however,
President Spence secured the con
sent of members of the executive
committee by long distance telephone
to increase the advance to $76.00 a
ton for No. I peanuts. So, when
checks went out for advances on
peanuts they were at the rate of
s7.') a ton instead of S6O a ton for
No. l’s.
Arrangements have been made with
the banks of this section to accept
the participation receipts issued with
all advances as collateral for loans.
The banks have agreed to loan as
much as 75 per cent of the equity a
member has in his participation re
ceipts. On $135 peanuts the mem
bers will have an equity of S6O a
ton, which would give n participa
tion receipt a loan value of $45.
Banks, as well as supply merch
ants, are co-operating with the as
sociation in the matter of crop
mortgages by allowing peanuts
against which they hold liens to be
delivered to the association and for
the association to protect the lien
holder.
