The county board of education
held its monthly meeting Tuesday.
Mr. H. H. Cowart, of Valdosta,
was in Blakely on business Tuesday.
Miss Cola Dickenson, of Dothan, is
visiting Mrs. J. G. Standifer this
week.
Mr. W. R. Taylor, of Rowena,
was looking after business in Blakely
Tuesday.
MV. Jack Simpson, of Fort Gaines,
was a prominent visitor to Blakely
Friday.
Mrs. C. C. Lane and Mrs. Alto
Warrick visited friends in Columbia
last Friday.
Mrs. G. M. Sparks, of Arlington,
spent last Friday in the city with
her husband.
Dr. and Mrs. J. G. Standifer an

district, died Tuesday and was buried
at Friendship church Wednesday.

tion, ‘‘Behold My Wife,” which is
being shown at the Seneca Theatre
tonight.
MV. Dudley H. McDowell, of Bom
bay, India, arrived in Blakely last
week to spend some time with Mr.
and Mrs. T. B. McDowell. His
friends are glad to see him looking
so well this time.
City Health Officer Dr. C. R. Barks
dale, aided by other local physicians,
is examining the school children in
Blakely this week. He aßka that the
parents see that their children are in
attendance this week.
Mrs. C. W. Lay went over to Do
than Wednesday, where she is ex
pected to undergo an operation either
today or in the very near future. Her
friends are sincerely hoping that she
will withstand the ordeal and be
greatly benefitted thereby.

A recent marriage which has here
tofore escaped this scribe was that
of Mrs. Mary Hester and Mr. Henry
Jack Roberts, which occurred on
February 25th in the Cuba neighbor
hood, where both parties resided.
Rev. J. Houston was the officiating
minister.
Mr. Gatewood Freeman went down
to Bainbridge Sunday, bringing Mrs.
Freeman home from a hospital, where
she has recently undergone an oper
ation. Her friends are glad to learn
that she is able to return home, and
hope that she may soon be fully re
covered from her trying ordeal.
Ruth, the infant daughter of MV. i
and Mrs. Rufus Harrison, of tha Lu-1
cile district, died last Saturday night
after a short illness. The remains
of the little babe were interred at
the Bethel church yard near Cedar
Springs Sunday. The sorrowing par
ents have the sympathy of their
neighbors.
Frank Travis, a well known negro
brick mason, died at his home in
this city Saturday morning. He
was buried at Wesley Chapel ceme
tery Sunday, being a member of that
church. Frank was well liked, being
one of the best citizens of his race,
being a hard worker, honest a nd re
spectful. He came to Blakely about
12 years ago and began work with
DV; E. L. Fryer. Our people regret
to leam of his death.

EARLY COUNTY NEWS
Mr. Billie Buchannon, of the U.
S. Navy, is spending this week with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. B.
Buchannon, in Blakely. Billie has
seen six years service with Uncle
Sam and has visited points all over
the globe since his enlistment. This
is his first visit home in four years
and his friends and the home folks
were glad to see him.
James Thomas, 11 months old son
of Mr. and Mrs. James R. Grier, of
the Centerville neighborhood, died
jesterday afternoon at 5 o’clock of
pneumonia. The remains of the
little boy will be buried at Center
ville cemetery this afternoon. May
! the sorrowing loved ones find com
| fort in the knowledge that the little
one is now “safe in the arms of
Jesus.”
Mr. C. B. Savage died at Brun
didge, Ala., Monday morning follow
ing an illness of some duration with
penumonia. The deceased was well
known in Blakely, visiting here fre
quently as a traveling salesman pre
vious to his marriage to a Blakely
lady, Mrs. Sara M’cDowell Marshall,
and on several occasions since lo
cating at Brundidge. Messrs. T. B.
and D. H. McDowell, brothers of
Mrs. Savage, attended the funeral,
which occurred on Tuesday. Mrs.
Savage has the sympathy of her
home people in her great sorrow.

The regular lwsiness meeting of
the Woman’s Missionary Society of
the Methodist church was held at
the home of Mrs. D. R. Deal Mon
day afternoon at 3 o’clock. There
were thirty-four members present.
The Circle leaders gave good re
ports for Circle meetings.
After the reports from officers and
all business had been transacted,
Mrs. W. C. Cox brought us a won
derful report from our Woman’s
Missionary Conference held at Tif
ton.
All members failing to attend
these meetings are missing a great
blessing.
