The lovely country home of Mrs.
J. W. Alexander, near Damascus,
was destroyed by fire last Thursday
i night. This was one of the most
| desirable places in Early county and
our people sympathize with the fam
ily in their great loss.
Miss Lola Sewell and Mr. H. G.
Fuller, of Graceville, Fla., motored to
Blakely Sunday and called on Judge
IC. C. Lane to tie the matrimonial
i knot for them. A party of relatives
; and friends accompanied them.

mony. The bride is a daughter of :
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest F. Chandler,
and the groom is a son of the late j
Mr. Eli Knight. Both of them come j
from pioneer Early county families
and have a wide circle of friends
and relatives who will wish them
much happiness on the journey
through life together.

Mary Goolsby, widow of Grandison I
| Goolsby, died Friday, March 7th, of I
'diabetes. Mary w r as a daughter or I
! Charles Hutchins, an ante-bellum ne
| gro of the Pleasant Grove neighbor- j
j hood, well known to the older citi- ]
i zens of Early county. Her death,
j together with that of Charlie Given*,
jwho died on the Bth from influenza,
i recall the troublous times in Early
! county some nine years ago brought
about through the assassination of
Mr. Henry Villipigue by Grandison
I Goolsby and the three days man hunt
I that followed before Grandison was
killed by the posse.
Mrs. Callie Minter Howard, of the
Jakin neighborhood, died at Donal
sonville about midnight of Tuesday,
where she was visiting at the home
of a brother, Dr. M. M. Minter. Her
remains were interred at Midway
Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Thad
Wiseman attended the funeral from
Blakely. Mrs. Howard was a daugh
ter of the late John M. Minter, a
pioneer citizen of Early county, and
was one of ten children, eight of s
■whom still survive. Mrs. J. B. a
Chancy, of Blakely, is a sister, but I
owing to illness was unable to attend
! the funeral. The deceased was the
j widow of the late John W. Howard,
1 better known to our people-as “Gov.”
j Howard. The sorrowing relatives
! have the sympathy of our people, j
