Blakely, Ga.. December 4, 1924.
Only three weeks till Christmas.
o
December ushered in some wintry
weather.
o
Some of the business houses of
Blakely are displaying and advertis
ing holiday goods. Only three weeks
remain before Christmas.
o
Congress is in session again. The
1 insurgents will see to it
that the well “oiled” G. O. P. ma
chine meets a few obstacles in its
steam-roller methods.
The weather observer’s records
show that less than * one-half inch
of rain fell in Blakely during the
month of November. The present
Fall has been one of the driest on
record.
o ——
President Coolidge, in his message
to Congress, urges a reduction in
taxes. Well, we know' of no objec
tion along this line, if the plan for
reduction is carried out instead of
merely talked.
0 —
One matter the American people |
want to see disposed of during the
present session of Congress is that
of the Muscle Shoals plant. With
the election out of the way there
won’t be so many bugaboos in the
disposition of the matter.
o
The biennial sessions amendment
carried in the recent election by the
largest majority of any of the con
stitutional amendments, which shows I
that the people of Georgia would be:
conten with having its legislature]
powwow only every other year in-:
stead of once a year as at present.
0
Th; : > have been several responses
to the News’ s c-ial holiday sub
scription rate of SI.OO per year forj
a short period of time, and several
new names have been added to our
subscription list. The offer contin
ues until December 24tb, when the
price will revert back to $1.50 per
year.
r O
The gins of Early count} had turn
ed out 3261 more bales of cotton up
to November 14th than in 1923 to
the same date, the comparative fig
ures being 7.513 bales in 1914 and
1,25*2 bales in 1923. In dollars and
cents, this means about $360,000 in :
crease in farm receipts, which sounds'
some bigger than when merely ex- ■
pressed in bales.
o |
The "night hawks" of Blakely
have become such a nuisance with
their pocket artillery of late that.
the city authorities have put on an-j
other policeman for night duty. This
step on the part of the city authori
ties will meet with the approval of
a majority of the citizens of Blakely,
who are desirous of soplpg these
night disturbances quelled.'
