Dr. J. G. Standifer attended a
special Masonic meeting in Albany
last week in which the 32nd degree
of the Ancient and Accepted Scot
tish Rite of Freemasonry -was con
ferred on a class of twenty men.

Sallie Robinson, wife of John Rob
inson, who lives on Mr. A. E. Alex
ander’s farm just south of town,
died Tuesday after a short illness.
She was buried at Wesley Chapel
Methodist church in Blakely Wed
nesday.

Blakely friends will be interested
to learn that Mr. Edgar Boyett. for
merlj7 of this city, and Miss Mary
' Webb, a popular young lady, of
Damascus, were united in marriage
Sunday. The News has not learned
any further particulars of the mar
riage.

this paper under the caption of “Wom
an.” The author’s name not being
made known to the editor, the pub
lication of same is being -withheld
until the writer makes known his

Church and Eloise Brunson, gradu
ates from the Blakely high school.

The Blakely high school team ad
ministered a 12 to 2 defeat to the
Bainbridge Hi team here last Thurs
day afternoon, the contest being fea
tured by the pitching of Bush, who
struck out 14 of the Bainbridge sons
of swat. Arlington is over for a
game this afternoon.

.Dr. J. G Standifer. Deputy Com
missioner for Early County of the
Boy Scouts of America, wishes to
announce that Mr. C. A. Drake has
consented to take the position cf
Scout Master for the Boy Scout
Troop in Blakely. All boys between
the ages of 12 and 18 are invited to
join the movement.

The Americus district conference
of the M. E. Church convened in
Americus today. Several delegates
from the Blakely church and the
churches of the Blakely circuit have
gone up to attend the session. The
unification question will be voted
upon adversely by the Early county
delegates so far as the News is in
formed.

John L„ 3 months old infant son
of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Smith, died
at the home of his parents on Bay
street at 4:30 o’clock Wednesday
morning. The remains of the little
boy were carried to Mt. Zion in
Clay county for interment Wednes
day afternoon. The sorrowing young
parents have the sympathy of our
people in their great distress.
Mr. and Mrs. Willie Wiley were
over from Damascus Tuesday. The
News regrets to learn from Mr.
Wiley that his gin house at Damas
cus was destroyed by fire of un
known origin on Monday night of
last week. Besides the gin machin
ery, Mr. Wiley lost his peanut
picker and about 100 bushels of
corn. The building was partially
insured. On the afternoon previous
Mr. W. C. Hunt, who lives this side
of Damascus, had a barn set on fire
by a lightning stroke and lost a lot
of his farm machinery in the burn
ing structure.

Judge R. H. Sheffield held a two
day session of the City Court of
Blakely, adjourning for the term
Tuesday evening. Some ten or more
colored crap-shooters pleaded guilty
and were assessed $30.00 per head
by His Honor. A number of civil
suits were also disposed of. several
of them going to a jury. £ number
of out of town attorneys were in
attendance on the session, among
them being Judge E. L. Smith and
Col. J. M. Cowart of Arlington, Col.
E. R. King of Fort Gaines, Judge W.
I. Geer and Col. Jesse Drake of
Colquitt, and perhaps others.

Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Grimsley, Sr.,
returned Sunday from a several days
visit to relatives and friends in
Miller and Seminole counties. They
tell on- Uncle Hamp that one day
while he was out w’ith a fishing
party that he grew weary of the
sport, and the rest of the party
put him on guard to take care of the
fish they had already caught. But
he fell asleep at the switch and their
hopes for a fish dinner were wreck
ed, for a “razor back hog” was
running aloose in those diggings and
while Uncle Hamp snoozed the “ra
zor back” was feasting on fisn.
At last accounts Uncle Hamp -was
two laps ahead of Uncle Bob Duke
on fish stories.
HELMS-MORSE.
Blakely friends will be interested
to learn that Miss Lessie Mae
Helms, of Hollywood, Fla., and Mr.
Calvin Stanley Morse, of Marianna,
Fla., formerly of Blakely, were unit
ed In marriage on April 19th. Mr.
Morse is second to youngest son of
Mrs. Leila D. Morse, of Blakely. The
young couple will make their home
in Hollywood.

SIXTH BIRTHDAY.

daughter of Dr. and Mrs. J. G.
Standifer, celebrated her sixth birth- i
day last Wednesday with a beautiful :
lawn party.
The little lady was the recipient . I
of many gifts and in turn distributed • i
dainty favors.
Mrs. Standifer was assisted in en
tertaining the little folks by Misses'
Jane Rambo, Emily Adams, Mary;
Grist, Sarah Beckham and Joan Hand.
Some 60 or more little girls and
boys were present for the occasion.
VIRGINIA FRYER IS HONORED I
ON HER FOURTH BIRTHDAY
Mrs. Carl Fryer entertained Friday ;
afternoon, the occasion being in I
honor of the fourth birthday of he'-
little daughter, Virginia.
The/little guests called at four'
o’clock, and for an hour were enter
tained with numerous games.
Refreshments were served at five'
o’clock in the dining room, where'
vases and baskets of sweet peas i
were placed. Tn the center of the'
dining table was a birthday cake,
with four pink candles, and from
the chandelier overhead fell stream-I
ers of pink.
The favors presented to the ‘
guests were baskets filled with can-•
dy and balloons. About 45 were
present.
GREEN-PENDLETON.
On the afternoon of the 17th of
May a marriage of considerable 10-i
cal interest took place at the home
of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs.
J. L. Collins. The contracting par
ties were Mrs. Mamie Lou Green
and Mr. S. J. Pendleton. Mrs. Green
is the beautiful and accomplished
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. L.
/Collins, and Mr. Pendleton is a
member of the firm of Pendleton
Bros., wholesale grocers, of Talla
hassee, Fla.
Rev. J. G. Corley tied the nuptial!
knot in the presence of the family i
and a small coterie of relatives.
The bride and groom left for'
points in Alabama and west Florida.'
On their return they will be at
home to their friends in Tallahassee. ■
