UPSHAW’S TRIBUTE
TO JUDGE COX
!
j ALBANY. Ga.—Congressman W.
!D. Upshaw, of the Fifth Georgia i
| district, who was in this city Mon- j
; day, paid the following tribute to I
Judge E. E. Cox, the Congressman
from the Second Georgia district:
“I was a college mate of Gene
Cox at Mercer, and I always knew
he was an orator, but I didn’t realize
he was also a statesman until he
made his maiden speech in congress,
at which time he spoke on the
revenue bill. That speech was only
five minutes long, but it was a rev
elation to me and to every man who
heard it. For the length of time
he has served I think no man ever
has made a greater impression on his
associates in congress and he is des
tined to become a powerful factor
in the nation’s law-making body
and will establish a record of which
his district, his state and his county
may well be proud.”

single page of six columns, issued
for the benefit of advertisers.
I A two-line paragraph informs us
that the temperature of this week
has been more like April than De

The longest paragraph of reading
in the issue was: “So far as weath

cinage, white and black, have been
and are enjoying Christmas week,
just as their inclinations may lead
—that is, if no money is needed.
Some have found pleasure in drunks,
some in sociables and some in busi
ness. We are glad not to be called
on to rceord any serious disturb
ance of the peace.”
