BASEBALL NEWS
MORGAN 8, BLAKELY 3
After basking in first place for
one day by a margin of one-half
game, Blakely journey up to Calhoun
county Thursday and let the Morgan
team knock them right out again.
L. L. Roberts started the game for
the locals and before fine innings
could pass he had lost a ball game.
He was relieved by Kirksey, who
fared no better, allowing five hits
in the eighth inning.
BLAKELY 3, ABBEVILLE 2
Pitching his first regular game for
the fighting Bob Cats, Geer broke
into the win column here last Fri
day by defeating a stubborn Abbe
ville team, 3 to 2. Stovall, the new
catcher, was also working in his first
game and did a bang-up job. The
entire game was played in a slow
rain and featured the pinch hitting
of E. Kelly, who led off with a single
when the score was tied 2-2, which
later netted a run for the locals and
meant victory.
EUFAULA DEFEATS
BLAKELY, 12-10
In a wild game, filled with er
rors, wild pitches and extra base
hits, Eufaula defeated Blakely Tues
day 12-10. Bolden, a new pitcher
from Oglethorpe, started the game
for Blakely and was relieved by
Clifton, but to no avail. Hutchins
was the heavy man with the hickory,
getting a home run with two men
on base.
MORGAN HERE TODAY;
IN MORGAN FRIDAY
The Calhoun county boys come
here today (Thursday) for what
might prove to be one of the decid
ing games as to who will, capture
the first half pennant. Morgan and
Blakely are running a close race
for top honors, with Morgan having
a small lead. Manager Owen’s
pitching choice for today will be
Bolden, the new pitching recruit,
who pitched a fair game in Eufaula
Tuesday, but lost due to bad sup
port. Stovall will be on the re
ceiving end.
Blakely will play a return game
in Morgan Friday afternoon.
NOTES on a baseball reporter’s cuff.
In order that Manager Owen's
team might capture that first half
pennant we have got to play almost
.1000 ball. . .Large crowds would
be a great factor and an inspiration
BLAKELY 8, EUFAULA 5
Blakely defeated Eufaula Wednes
day in a free-hitting contest, fea
tured by the timely three-bagger of
Foy Williams with three men on
bases. Batteries: Blakely, Kirksey
and Stovall; Eufaula, Braswell and
Smith.
Stokes, Rev. Ralph Byrd, and other
ministers will be speaking at the an
nounced hours. These meetings will
continue on through the 4th of July.
Thursday night a large number of
musicians is expected from Colum
bus, Ga. Do not miss these serv
ices.

Our guess is that Blakely has the
best catching force in the wholle
leage in Kelly, Hutchins and Stovall
. . .You can’t bleat old warhorse
Hutchins for keeping a team on its
toes and putting life into them when
the opposition team forges ahead . . .
The first half schedule ends July 2
